Any interest/comments about a kids-only forum here?

BajaNomad - 6-23-2005 at 08:48 PM

Any thoughts, good/bad, about creating a kids-only forum here?

Should it be accessible to read/post/reply only by password? - or only to specific users?

Thanks,

a -okay idea

yankeeirishman - 6-23-2005 at 08:57 PM

Absolute thinking! I had several u2u's come to me...saying that their younglings read here too. Put my kid on the list for this.

Who will be assigned the position of 'Uncle Baja' to moderate or coach the kiddies?:light:

Debra - 6-23-2005 at 09:07 PM

That would be great Doug, thanks! I'll even 'ride herd' over the little buggers if you need someone.

David K - 6-23-2005 at 09:07 PM

OR... Auntie Baja???

yankeeirishman - 6-23-2005 at 10:37 PM

Uncle Baja here would help out too.

My youngest Kid is 34 years old, but he might enjoy it.

Doug,

Baja Kid's Forum sounds great. A place for children to share their experiences, ask questions for school reports, show off fishing/ camping photos, meet other kids who share the same interests, etc.

It could also be a resource for parents and serve a purpose for the many "parent to parent" questions regarding taking kids to Baja.

To keep the forum some what accountable, perhaps it should require posters to be registered rather than allow anonymous postings.

Our Baja girl might be interested in sharing some of her experiences living in Baja, 2nd grade at Collegio Rodriguez Cabrillo, meeting new friends and learning about customs and traditions different from those in the U.S.

Maybe she won't feel like she's the only one who isn't allowed a Game Boy once the roads turn to dirt if she reads it from another child instead of just hearing it from me!

Here's a shot from camping out for this year's 500 race.

Saludos!
Paulina<*)))><

including some Mexican kids just so their "knowledge" of Baja isn't tainted by tourists:light:

kids forum

mulege marv - 6-24-2005 at 03:46 PM

kids forum is fine, just dont restrict the open nomads forum to be "kid friendly"

Marv can you put a killer deer in that bowl?:light:

A chip off the 'ole block, eh?;D

Debra - 6-24-2005 at 08:24 PM

JR? As far as I know you have no young children, so I have to wonder why you feel a need to sling 'caca' to this simple question about a kids forum?

Did anyone say anything about whom to invite? (except you?) I think the question was "would anyone be interested in a kids forum"? SHEESH!

Doug, I think maybe a registered forum would be good, and no "Adults" allowed except parents. Is there a way to make that happen? And sorry if this offends anyone......BUT, I think a tight control would be called for.

And I tried to stay out of the "uglies" about the foul language, but, NO! not every kid says it, when not around his/her parents! My son (11 almost 12) came to me and asked if while singing the Toby Keith song about 9/11 if it was okay for him to say "ass" while singing to that song! Silly me! I told him "yes"......

No, we don't have to just lay down to what is the "norm" we can set better standerds for out children! Debra's rant "has left the building"

Debra - 6-24-2005 at 08:49 PM

Well, I haven't heard JR mention any children (mea culpa) Do they travel south also?

My children???? "Children " are 31, 25 and 11......they have been raised by Mom (and on occasion Dad) until I kicked them out as adults. ( well, really they went on their own after high-school, but seem to try to multiply and return.....NO WAY! Time to "fly little chickies"........

Slinging Caca?

jrbaja - 6-24-2005 at 08:57 PM

Actually Debra, my daughter has been coming down since she was 6 weeks old. And, I thought I would share the idea of learning from people that actually know Baja (the Mexicans) like my daughter did rather than a bunch of tourists ideas on the place.:light:
Sorry if you don't understand!

Debra - 6-24-2005 at 09:23 PM

Well, yes JR, I don't understand....this is the first I've heard of a daughter from you or anyone until now.

The thing that botters me JR, is that you always seem to "talk down" to anyone that doesn't live your same life style, as I said.....some of us/them have to do a 9 to 5 job and can't live our love as much as we would like....no matter, we do what we can, and where we can......Thing is, I don't know one person on this board that doesn't love Baja and contribute back as much as they can.....there are a few folks here that I don't like very much, but as I see it, even they give where and what they can. Tourist? Well, I dont see many since I was at Cabo. 1997 ICK! (sorry, not thing personal to those that live there, just not my cup of tea)...what I see is true lovers of the Mexican people and that way of life........

So....if I might be so bold....let you daughter learn from ALL people, there is alot to learn.....

Which brings us back to

jrbaja - 6-24-2005 at 09:26 PM

including Mexicans into the new Baja Nomads Romper Room, no?

Debra - 6-24-2005 at 09:34 PM

Again JR.....no one excluced Mexicans to the new "Baja Nomads Romper Room" in fact.....that would be the best! In fact, can you give me a web-site that I can go to to invite Mexican kids to the site? You get on line.....do those kids in your village have access? That would be really great! Thanks!

Unfortunately Debra

Our land lines are about a month or two away. But, there are plenty of bilingual kids in Los Barriles. As well as Rosarito.
The question is, would they have interest in this sort of nonsense. I will check.

"This sort of nonsence, I will check"

JR? I'm once again confused as to this comment from you. First you complaine that Mexican kids are not welcome, then this comment.? I would think that Yes, the Mexican kids as well as the US kids would be very interested in each other...Isn't that what it's all about? Or are you trying to keep them away from each other? And, huh? "Bilingual kids"? how about if they have to LEARN each other's launguage to talk to each other.....??? I would think this might be a good thing?????

Me thinks that we should take this to U2 so as not to offend the board?.....sorry Nomad's

[Edited on 6-25-2005 by Debra]

I beg your pardon ???

jrbaja - 6-25-2005 at 01:36 PM

"First you complaine that Mexican kids are not welcome, then this comment.?"
and then "Or are you trying to keep them away from each other?"
and then"is that you always seem to "talk down" to anyone that doesn't live your same life style,"
and then "Well, yes JR, I don't understand....this is the first I've heard of a daughter from you or anyone until now."

Ever hear of Evelyn Woodhouse? Something to do with comprehension me thinks.

And as far as my family is concerned, nunya! You don't see them on here do you? That's because I hope they have better things to do than this. Like I am assuming the Mexican kids will too, but, I will try and recruit some as I do feel it would be beneficial to both groups.
Wait, didn't I already mention that?

bajaruby - 6-25-2005 at 02:33 PM

Well Doug,
I think that most of us started going to Baja when we were children or we wouldn't like it so much, right.
I don't know much about web sites, but if there was a way to set it up so kids could read about fish stories, photos, and baja related stuff, I think that would be great. I have 2 g-daughters that just can't wait to go, but their parents are just to paranoid. Maybe a way to keep them off the OFF TOPIC, a block or something???? I don't know, but I think the kids would really love to read and see the most perfect place in "my eyes" in the world. And maybe the mexican kids could realize what they have, and appreciate it more.

Let's see

jrbaja - 6-25-2005 at 02:44 PM

you think that a bunch of gringo kids could teach the Mexican kids what they have?:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I almost wet my pants over that one! Good thing I wasn't drinking Pacifico yet or I would have:lol::lol::lol:

Just when you think you've heard it all!:lol::lol:

First Hand Knowledge

MrBillM - 6-25-2005 at 05:20 PM

Let the kids learn about Baja Firsthand the way I did, going to the race track and Jai Alai Palace, cruising the nasty bars on Avenida Revolucion with my dad and finding out the real difference between boys and girls. The best education there is.

Of course, Caliente Race Track is closed now, so they'll have to substitute something else. Come to think of it, The Blue Fox is gone too. I'm sure that there are other sites just as interesting, though.

other way around

EXACTLY whats needed! This may be a good way for the "American" kiddies to learn what tough life can be for the Natives. As they travel then, perhaps they will respect the hardships of other kids.
