Mike Humfreville or Gonzaga Fly-In Bound Travellors

Rockeeroad - 9-29-2003 at 02:11 PM

We have a friend that would like to drive down for the Fly-In, but can't leave until Thursday night. Would it be possible for her to meet you in San Felipe on Friday morning and caravan down with you. If yes, just post the time and place and I will call her.

Thanks,

Etta

Hi Etta,

That would be fine with one comment: we drive those roads fairly fast 20-40 mph dirt) to stay "above" the washboard. It can take up to 6 hours of more for the San Felipe to Gonzaga run and we usually drive it in around 3 hours. What is your friend driving and does she have any experience with driving dirt? We will do whatever's needed if it's important, of course. It's always great to meet up along the way. We (two-three vehicles) will be leaving San Felipe Friday A.M. Let me know whazzup. Hi Mike

It's our friend and neighbor, Heather. She just drove us down a week ago. Since July, she has driven at least 4 times and is now an old pro on that road! I think our time with her last week was 3.5 hours....We leave tomorrow...14 in all...see you there!

That sounds good as far as the speed thing goes. Mary Ann and I are staying with El Camote etc north of San Felipe. I would think we'd be leaving mid morning Friday and we can name a meeting place if your friend wants to join us. Do you think Antonio has rooms available?

Mike - Road Report for San Felipe to Gonzaga

Rockeeroad - 9-29-2003 at 09:12 PM

Mike

Just spoke with Heather she will be contacting you via phone number posted. She spoke with John Baretta via sat. phone and he gave her a road report to pass on. The section between San Felipe and Puert. is still pot holes. The road from there on is actually pretty good. John reports the rain smoothed out some of the washboard areas. There is a wash out just before Papa's. No problem getting through with 2-wheel drive. Just be careful and watch for hidden rocks and go through sandy wash one vehicle at a time.

Mary Ann and I yakked with Heather twice tonight and we're hooking up at El Camotes in San Felipe, traded cell phones etc, so all is set. We'll escort her to Gonzaga. I'm sure she'll be leading the pack by the time we get there. See you soon. Mike and MA

Rooms at the Cantina

Rockeeroad - 9-29-2003 at 11:18 PM

Mike

Since we will be arriving on Wednesday, would you like us to reserve you a room at the cantina? I don't think it will be busy, but I would be happy to make arrangements for you if you would feel more comfortable with reservations.

Mike

Would you like a room upstairs or or downstairs? Is your plan to be there Friday and Saturday? Does anyone else travelling with you need me to reserve a room? I'll check the board before we leave for any updates. We're looking forward to seeing you in SLG.

ETTA

A downstairs room for just the two of us would be great. Appreciate it. See you soon!

We're Out of Here

Brandi - 9-30-2003 at 02:48 PM

Mike

Consider it done. We are out of here. Spend tonight in Calexico--meeting family from Arizona. Heading for Gonzaga early tomorrow morning. Look forward to seeing you there.
