Frank - 6-24-2005 at 08:25 PM

Im heading south tomorrow. I would like to get some input on good places to eat in Mulege/Loreto and also in Los Barriles. Ive tried a few in each place but I can always add some to the list. Thanks Frank

Los Barriles

#1. El Viejo Tacos de callos
#2. Tio Pablos for French Dips, etc.
#3. Barrilitos for Mexican food, etc.
#4. Turn right just north of the laundrymat and about a block down on the right. Sorry, can't remember the name.
#5. The bamboo building about 1/2 mile south of the Pemex
#6. The seafood stand just north of the Pemex.

It would also be a good idea to stop 7 Km's north
of San Bartolo for some of the best chicken ever! You will see the trucks but it's called La Pila.

The Pelican Bar, Rays place at santispac beach, or my favorite the La palapa on the highway near the pemex going south from Mulege

Breakfast: Verdugos Vacation Resort next to Playa Del Sol

Lunch: Tacos Los Barriles or the taco stand on the left on the road through town towards the 1st arroyo. Dont know the name.

Dinner: La Palma Thi is a small hole in the wall restraunt Just up the dirt road from Tio Pablos., cheep! See lots of local Mexicans and gringos at this one.

Calafia: This is a good restraunt, cheep, located on the hwy going south out of town.

Salad Bar at Tio Pablos is not bad for dinner

The pink house in town just north of Verdugos. Great food! Don't know the name.

Los Barriles

I'll second that on Califia...nothing fancy...just good food.

Verdugo's has a good breakfast, but you can't beat the view...

Great Gringo breakfast?...Go to the bakery next to East Cape Tackle

Tio's is okay in a pinch...after you eat there a few times, all the food seems to taste the same.

Good tacos at the stand across from the pre school...Sometimes hard to find open...

Good Mex burgers and hot dogs at the push cart in the same area...also hard to find sometimes.

Happy Eating

It has been requested that you stop by the Tienda Tesoro, 1st one south of the Pemex in Los Barriles, and say hello to Do?a Lupe (the proprieter) from Don Bernie Swaim.
Gracias Amigo

I asked JR to give you instructions because I have never been there. She is the widow of Don Jimmy Smith who wrote the Book The Grinning Gargoyle that I sold you a couple of weeks ago--If I had of known you were going to be there I would have had you give her the money for the book--because I send her the money I collect for his books.

Thanks JR

In Mulege--- Carmalita`s South of the Pemex about 1 mile.
Very good Mex food, the BEST breakfast in baja.

Rice & Beans in town is clean and serves very good food cheep.

The Pelican, always good, after three in the afternoon.

I kinda like the taco-truck butted up to the fence in front of the grocery store - the one with the tall stools.

Bruce R Leech - 6-26-2005 at 07:26 AM

rpleger I agree on the Carmelita`s but don't spared it around to much.this is a good example of a restaurant that could be easily ruined by tourism. they are the way they are because of the truckers and they have all the business they want. If the tourists start stopping there very much the truckers will stop eating there. then they will only have business 5 months a year. prices will go up food quality will go down and the traditional Mexican food will be gone. I have seen this happen to many times. so shhhhh.
