Neighbors friend just got back from a one week fishing trip to Loreto. Daid dorado were thick, up to 70 pounds. I think I'd need a picture first.
40 I'd buy ....but 70????

Fishing for dorado remains poor, hit and miss, and for most folks a miss. Better chance of getting a billfish than a dorado. Water is warming, but I
don't know where the expected dorado are supposed to come from; they have been scarce south of here too.
A few fish inshore...cabrilla, snapper, triggers, lots of ladyfish. Prefered method is a gillnet, I got a trolled lure hung up on one of three such
nets working the entrance to Puerto Escondido the other day on my kayak.
I'm going out tomorrow, probably to target marlin or sailfish.
As for great reports, there was a private boat down here ("Finstinct") that posted on Bloodydecks.com. They did great for dorado to 61 lbs, but they
went way beyond the pangas (to 70 miles out) in rough water. And they had some secret inshore spot. Those are nice to have! But you don't see much
coming in at the Loreto marina.

Here is a fishing report I just sent to Gene Kira:
It is a lot more fun to write a fishing report when to do so provides
an opportunity to recount success than failure, but I suppose that
sharing the latter is just as important assuming that at least part of
the purpose is to allow folks to make an informed decision about
spending time and money on a trip. it is in that vein that this
report is submitted.
The fishing in Loreto, at least fishing for dorado for which Loreto is
famous in July, is in a word, Lousy. After a promising April with
unseasonably warm water and early billfish along with a few dorado, a
general slow-down in May, and sporadic catches of nice fish in June,
fishing has slowed down rather than picked up as we enter July. This
although over the past couple of weeks the water temperature has
increased and there are now consistently throughout the Loreto fishing
area water temperatures of 80 degrees and above. There are virtually
no paddies to be found and many people who live in Loreto at least in
part for the fishing in July are staying on the beach waiting for
somebody, anybody, to start bring fish in to the dock.
I fished four days this week and did not catch a single dorado On
Sunday I launched at Puerto Escondido and trolled south from east of
Isla Catalana to Las Animas, about 80 nautical miles south of Loreto.
One bite - a dorado that spit the hook - no fish.
On Monday after camping overnight on Isla San Jose I ran east to the
center of the Sea of Cortez and trolled north hoping to find some
antisocial dorado or maybe a wahoo. 40 miles later with nothing in
the box I turned east 30 miles outside Catalana. After the turn I did
catch two small marlin, around 85 lbs., and a sailfish about the same
size. Still no dorado.
Wednesday I fished north of Coronado to Pulpito then on a track
outside and back. About six hours trolling and skunked.
Friday I launched again from Puerto Escondido. With my non-fishing
daughter aboard in snotty 2 - 4' seas we trolled about four hours east
of Punta Perico on Isla Carmen. Skunked again.
Maybe things will get better. It can't get much worse.

thanks for the good report. Did you by any chance get as far out as Manadera Reef?
It is strange to hear of all that coverage and No fish.
Did you try any Squid Bait?
Most of my real good luck on large Fish always came after July 15th, when people woud ask I would always tell them to come after that date.

I'm not familiar with Manadera Reef, and was trolling marlin feathers. Some pangueros and others have been catching a few dorado with squid and other
live bait, but nobody has been really lighting it up. Maybe it will pick up after the middle of the month. I hope so. There sure are some long
faces down here now.

Manadero Reef is 35 miles out of Loreto on 030. When you get to a point 90 Degree directly off of the Manadero Point you will be on the Reef.
it is the best fishing that I had in all my years while living in Loreto.'' Get to know alvaro Murillo, the pangaero, he will help you out.
I think June is Early for the Good Dorado. i would catch a Squid, take a small piece of the Skirt, put on a large Hook and drift fish off of San Bruno
Reef and generally get several fish each time..
