seeking northern baja vacation advice

My friend and I will be taking a long weekend to explore northern Baja in late July. Since we're from the San Francisco area, we are hoping to escape the fog and spend some time on the beach. Based on our time constraints we were thinking of either heading to San Felipe or to the Ensenada area. We're not ready to rough it (seeing as how it is our first trip to Baja), but we don't demand total luxury either. Does anyone have any recommendations for where we could spend a couple of days sipping beer on the beach? Thanks!

Either the Pyramid Resort

or one of the many cheaper hotels down here. Pyramid is awesome!

Unless you like it hot and I mean REAL hot, stay away from San Felipe in July. The Ensenada area should be fine.

I'd recommend La Fonda. Historically, it's been pretty funky (not that I ever minded), but a recent change in ownership resulted in an upgrade to its rooms. Among other things, they put new beds in at least some of the rooms (although the old ones with the trough in the middle that you tended to roll into made for a certain, uh, coziness). It also has a spa. A search should provide a phone number.

You might like Estero Beach Hotel. Their breakfasts on the patio are wonderful.
