When I was young... I was so anxious to get back to Baja, I often would get home from school or work, pack up my 4X4, and take off that night!
I can remember leaving about midnight to arrive in San Felipe to watch sunrise... then drive on down to Nuevo Mazatlan or Shell Island on the sandy
roads.
This trip, which may last a week, will begin early this afternoon as Baja Angel had work duty this morning...
I have the truck almost all loaded, bought the ice (including dry ice) and had the ice chests (3) all packed last night.
We are taking Chris' little motorcycle and a boogie board for him to stay occupied... He was up late testing the bike, then playing games on the pc.
We may get into El Rosario by 9pm, and then see our friends... otherwise on Saturday morning.
The plan is to do the desert drive at 9 am, return by 1pm... Then I just want to enjoy the festivities, food, music, culture... I know how hard
Antonio has been working on this event... and how excited this town has become over it. They have never done anything like it before.
There is excitement about us Norteamericanos coming for their 'local' festival... and they are excited that we would come so far to share in their
event.
Instead of being just a refueling spot in the road, El Rosario has much to offer in the way of interesting area side trips... This could be the
beginning of a new era for this outpost town.
Last Thanksgiving I had the opportunity to explore some of the area: http://vivabaja.com/1104
Last May, we saw even more cool sites, like La Lobera: http://community-2.webtv.net/thebaja/505/
Now, as I wait for Chris to wake up and help me load his motorcycle onto my truck, I think about how fun it will be to visit these places again with
Baja Nomads and others who are going south today.
The plan on Monday is to go to Mision Santa Maria for two nights, then on Wednesday to continue on to Bahia de los Angeles or Bahia San Luis Gonzaga
or Shell Island... or if it just seems too bloody hot and humid, go back to the Pacific (7 Sisters, La Bocana, or Gypsy's at San Quintin).
That's what is so great about Baja... Just SO MANY great places to go!
I will report back to you all as soon as I can upon our return. Should I be at an Internet cafe (L.A. Bay), I will try and hammer out a quick note.
Have a great week you folks... wish all who want to, can go!

Hope all goes well with the El Rosario's festivities, and also the Mission repair job. Wish we could come too, but just too far away.
Report when you return, of course. Looking forward to it.
Drive carefully.
