El Rosario Festival Results

Has anyone heard anything as far as how the festival went?

I havent heard a word but boy did those guys miss a lot of sh-t.

....but I am. However, we did not attend many of the planned events.

We did stay out at La Bocana one night (very nice area!), we were present at the Bonfire of the Elders (none spoke English and they were rather reluctant to talk) and we did join the group on the 4wd adventure to El Cardonal, the copper mine and the Vibora Grade. About 8-9 vehicles made it on this. My F350 WITH THE LANCE CAMPER ON BACK, made the grade! It was an overcast day and very pleasant with occasional light showers. Great trip! I have not downloaded any pix yet.

The last toll booth headed back had a 1.5 hour wait! That has kind of stuck in my memory. The border was only about an hour at 8pm on sunday.

Ensenada was REALLY crowded on Sunday...almost a Carnival atmosphere. Very few P-nche gringos.......except for us.

I will let the others who attended more events give the long version.

I attended the El Rosario festival with my Dad(Doug), mom, and two of my younger brothers. It was an awesome experience. We arrived at the Baja Cactus Motel around 11:30 pm on Friday night. A long drive from San Diego. We stopped in Ensenada for fish and carne asada tacos though. On Saturday morning we joined what was supposed to be the 3 1/2 tour to El Cardonal but ended up being about 5 hours, because we had 8-9 vehicles. That was a great experience. Thanks David!! That night was the beauty pageant. I didn't know that would be such a big deal. It was crazy!! People were banging on tables left and right! That was a lot of fun too. It was supposed to start at nine, then ten. It didn't start until eleven, eleven thirty, and went until 2. There were a lot of people there cheering on their favorite girl. A 16 year old girl named Esmeralda won. I think there were 8 contestants. The next morning our family headed out to La Lobera, which was an awesome sight. The crater was huge and the coastline was beautiful! At 10:00 Antonio held a breakfast for all of the "nomads" which by the way was excellent! :spingrin: After breakfast a lot of people left, including our family, but nit until we watched the "drive-by car show". Which was basically a bunch of really nice old hot rods and good looking cars. The first three trucks, held the three winners from the beauty contest. It was really fun. We left around 12:30-1:00. That was an awesome experience, thanks to Antonio and his family. The Motel was BEAUTIFUL!!! Thanks for everything! The last toll booth took us 3 hours to get through, and the border took about an hour and a half. CRAZY! BUT FUN!!:bounce:

"Cranky" asked the tollbooth guy what the problem was and he said the other road was closed (libre road, I guess). We almost got off onto it, guess we were lucky.

That last toll booth was unreal. Only three lanes open on the Northbound side at 3pm. Southbound had five lanes open and wasn't as bad. It took us almost two hours to get through that last booth and only 45 minutes at the TJ border. The festival was very active and Audrey and I enjoyed ourselves. There is a lot more to El Rosario than we ever imagined. Many thanks to Antonio for all the hard work organizing the event.

.....I woke up from sleep Sunday morning and realized that I had broken camp on Sat. morning and had left your old Coleman stove on the shrubs at La Bocana. Yet, I didn't see it when I left. Did you guys come over and grab it before you bugged out?

If not, I need to make arrrangements to replace it for you.

I doubt I will find one of that vintage, though.

I guess we are all waiting for the "long version" of the festival when David K returns.

I grabbed Cranky's stove, some loose change, and anything else laying around and hid the loot in Cranky's camper. Not to worry, all is well.
