I saw your next taco....

surfer jim - 7-26-2005 at 01:53 PM

in the back of a Chevy truck....:o.....

Heading south on the toll road last week about noon....truck is passing me in left lane and I look over....the entire back of truck is filled (overfilled) with "meat" ....most of it is sort of wrapped in plastic...but plastic has been torn open by the wind and flapping in the breeze....juice dripping out and blowing around as it goes by....open to dust , heat, bugs, and whatever the passing vehicles stir up....and best part....we get slowed behind one of these 1970's oil burning, slow moving cars with the trail of blue smoke coming out the exhaust....and smoke is "flavoring" the exposed meat...... no ice of any kind is visable... just sun and wind pre-cooking this taco filling.....:wow:....

this reminded me why I don't eat ANYTHING that I didn't bring with me....we usually think that where we buy the taco...if is is "clean" the food is good...but never think about how that meat got there.....

got that "funny" feeling in your stomach?....I know why...!!

That load was heading

to the McDonalds processing plant where it will be mixed with 90% chemicals so it is safe for the gringos to injest. Not to worry.

Insufficient data

Any markings on the truck or the meat packages to indicate it was a provisioner?

Anyway, seems to me that a combination of sunlight, wind, carbon monoxide and ozone is a cheap and effective tool for killing bacteria. High cooking temps will do the rest. I don't mind a little dust, and the bugs just add a little extra protein. Very low in fat too.

No wonder I cant get that same taste up here. Whatever it is, its worth the drive alone.

Several years ago we went to the Festival at San Javier and the first day we spied a small pickup truck that had the bed loaded with beef cuts. People would come by and buy whatever they needed for the meal that night. By the third day of the festival, this truck was getting a little harder to walk by without choking a little bit.
Anyway, we were camping with some people from California who were making a really big thing out of eating whatever the locals were eating and they begin to make fun of my wife who subsisted for three days on packaged Maria Cookies. I just happened to see that the restaurant, or should I say "stand", that they always frequented was serviced by the same meat from the pickup truck. They got soooo sick and it took at least a week to recover.

And people say

jrbaja - 7-26-2005 at 06:16 PM

Actually, most of you probably have. You just never gave it much thought as to how it gets around:lol::lol::lol:

When i saw this I kept thinking about what EMERIL is always saying...(for those of you who watch Food Channel)..."Where I come from the _____ (whatever food) doesn't come seasoned"....and then he adds some spices to what he cooks.....Well , he has never been to BAJA because there the meat DOES come seasoned!....
