JRBajas 4 way test for weeding out chicken coopers

jrbaja - 8-1-2005 at 12:20 PM

from true Baja Aficionados.

1. They only post to whine about something
2. They have spent very little time in Baja
3. They are generally the ones getting drunk and giving gringos a bad name
4. They try to make money selling inferior Baja related products based on 1 or 2 trips to Baja.

Getting Weeded

MrBillM - 8-1-2005 at 12:28 PM

Do they have to comply with ALL four points to get weeded ? That seems to be the Rotary Test. Or is it One Strike and you're weeded ?

Do you use a Hula Hoe or a regular one ?

That'll Work !

MrBillM - 8-1-2005 at 12:46 PM

Over at the "Hatred" Thread, JR did say that he was stockpiling Weaponry.

Sorry Bill

jrbaja - 8-1-2005 at 12:48 PM

What I meant was frying pans and rotisserie ovens.:lol:

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

jrbaja - 8-1-2005 at 12:57 PM

Wonder how long HE's been coming down to Baja.

Sharksbaja - 8-1-2005 at 01:05 PM

Actually it was a small :lol:turkey in a chickens' costume.

Seems innocent to me

jrbaja - 8-1-2005 at 01:10 PM

Bruce R Leech - 8-1-2005 at 08:00 PM

this is the funnest thread yet. I love that rotisserie chicken cartoon Hose A.

Diver - 8-1-2005 at 08:05 PM

OK JR, which turkey are you ?:lol:

Love the roaster !

Hose', what's with the one-footed take-off ?
and no fair, his toe is across the line !:lol:

Well...

bigzaggin - 8-2-2005 at 10:41 AM

he's a huge wuss. I fire similar and often larger arms daily and have never so much as lifted a toe.

What a wuss.

p.s. Guns rule!

How does one get to

jrbaja - 8-2-2005 at 10:56 AM

fire similar and larger arms daily? That sounds pretty fun!

Mike Supino - 8-2-2005 at 11:02 AM

Maybe he has his own chicken coop!

larger than .50 cal ????----

Barry A. - 8-2-2005 at 11:14 AM

I am not aware of any handgun larger than .50 cal.-------please educate me.

"A wuss" ????--------I weigh 200 lbs. and a .50 cal hand gun sure would set me back on my heals unless you take real precautions-----like really leaning into it in anticipation of the recoil. In fact, the largest cal. I have ever personally fired is a .45 and it sets me back pretty good--------.44 mag. even more so.

What all this has to do with Baja is beyond me, but here I am responding anyway. Go figure.

Sharksbaja - 8-2-2005 at 11:24 AM

Childs play.:P

Barry A. - 8-2-2005 at 11:53 AM

Child's play ??????????? .50 cal. ????????

Holy cow, what have I missed??? (-:

Um...

bigzaggin - 8-2-2005 at 01:51 PM

I was joking. As a matter of pride, I've never fired a gun...BUT, I'm not YET living with the irrational fear of "the outside world" threatening "my property" or "values." It's still totally possible I'll flee the city one day, hole up somewhere super remote, throw up a barbed fence and defend my plot with a mean dog and a .45 in the waistband.

I'm still young you know.

budman - 8-5-2005 at 08:37 PM

I haven't seen a 50 cal handgun, fired alot of 50 cal rounds in the Army, would NEVER put that round in a handgun, it is almost as large as most handguns in length, and lots of recoil. The largest production round in diameter is the .45 cal, the most powerful production round is the 454 casull.

.45 Recoil

MrBillM - 8-5-2005 at 09:02 PM

My personal favorite has always been the .45 ACP and I've owned an M1911 longer than any other weapon I have. I'm always wondering about people who claim to have a problem with the recoil. I'm a physically small person with fairly small hands, but I have NEVER experienced what I would consider significant recoil. I've got a Ruger .357 Magnum 6" barrel that has a substantially more apparent recoil, but even that is manageable. When my wife fires either, I can watch her tense in preparation prior to the trigger pull. I think the anticipation is what does most people in.

I have to admit, though, that I consider the whole .50 caliber fad to be something of a fetish. There really isn't a good use (civilian) for that monster. I'd like to go somewhere, sometime just to fire one, though. Of course, it would have to be outside of California.

I wasn't commenting on 50 cal...

but I don't see a big deal with anything short of 50 cal.

sorry budman

mulege marv - 8-6-2005 at 05:27 AM

"The largest production round in diameter is the .45 cal, the most powerful production round is the 454 casull"

that is not true, the 454 casull was the most powerful a long time ago, until "the desert eagle 50. cal"

budman - 8-6-2005 at 05:37 AM

I stand corrected, I will agree that a .50 cal round is larger in circumfrence, however I will have to see ballistics to see which is more powerful. It is hard to imagine an automatic round that produces as much muzzle velocity as the 454. It seems it would wreck an action, I may be wrong, and have been before.

by the way

mulege marv - 8-6-2005 at 05:59 AM

its heavy, awkward, expensive, and not very fun to shoot. the only thing i like about the gun is it is nice to look at.

budman - 8-6-2005 at 06:14 AM

Here are the fruits of google, "googleberries"

The 500 s&w is the most powerful standard handgun cartridge in the world by a VERY large margin. It fires up to a 350gr bullet at up to 2000 FPS, and up to a 750gr bullet at up to 1250 fps.

By comparison the .50ae fires a 300-350gr bullet at 1250-1750fps, and the .50gi fires a 300gr bullet at 900 fps.

The reason for such a small range for the to .50?s is that they are autopictol cartridges, and autos have far less tolerance for variations in length, or power.

A .500 S&W can be loaded to the point of being as powerful as some large rifle cartridges, or downloaded into .44 magnum territory.

In terms of comparison with other cartirdges, the .500 s&w is closest in power to the 45-70 gov?t, the .50ae is similar to a high end .44 magnum, and the .50gi is about the same as a .45 super if it were loaded with 300gr bullets (most load the super with very light bullets for the ultra high velocities pushgin it into .41 magnum range)

Well...

bigzaggin - 8-6-2005 at 10:19 AM

I just wanna know which one's best for takin' out them queers! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!

ouch...

eetdrt88 - 8-6-2005 at 07:04 PM

there is some serious "falling apart" going on in this thread:lol::lol::lol:

Dave - 8-6-2005 at 07:29 PM

WOW! that's way more punch than anyone needs with their cake.

I think it's about time for another "Dirty Harry" sequel.

for those interested in police work...

eetdrt88 - 8-6-2005 at 09:02 PM

please take this task a little more seriously...

The Oldest Still The Best

MrBillM - 8-6-2005 at 09:44 PM

If the objective is to comfortably carry a firearm that will do the best job of bringing the Bad Guy down, I still think the .45 ACP is the best choice, although there is NO guarantee that even that will stop someone dead in their tracks with one or two hits unless something vital is hit. The July or August issue of Handgun Magazine has an article that makes that very point. The best way to insure likely success is the use of the proper ammunition.

Although I target practice with 185gr FMJ Ball ammo because it's the cheapest and cycles best in an M1911 or other, when the gun is loaded at home or in my vehicle I load it with Frangible self-defense ammo. Various manufacturers make it, but Cor-Bon is excellent to name one. I've got loads of this type ammo for all of the weapons I'm likely to be using, .38 spl,
.380, 9mm Parabellum and the .45. Although expensive, you're not going to use it unless it's a life-death situation. Looked at in that light, it's cheap.

The .45 that I carry usually is an AMT Backup, the smallest frame in that caliber. While true that the .45 ACP's ballistics suffer notably with that short a barrel, using the proper ammo still makes it superior to the 9mm.

Mr Bill-----I totally agree with you------

Barry A. - 8-6-2005 at 09:47 PM

and it is so nice to actually "totally" agree with something----------:lol::lol:

Sallysouth - 8-6-2005 at 09:47 PM

Wow! wish I had the time to converse (or such) ! Are you people (mostly "men") fast typers and have the extra time to do this? Altho I love to read some of the stories here, it seems a bit over run by a handfull of posters. I like you guys, but it is really getting "clickie' here. What about the newbies that need some encouragement, response?

And what does the "firearm'"thread have to do with Baja!???

Morphing

MrBillM - 8-6-2005 at 10:19 PM

It morphed from JR's talk of "Weeding" out people, but it's a great subject.

Sallysouth - 8-6-2005 at 10:26 PM

Okey Dokey, I still think you guys need to get a new "hobby" (just don't shoot me!) Like I said.....Baja?

gee,it seems to me that about 80%...

Guns-Not Just for Guys Anymore

MrBillM - 8-7-2005 at 11:59 AM

I know plenty of Gals who like to plink around with guns, including my Wife, although she's not quite as enthused as I am.

Saw a Gal driving an old Toyota 4wd one day with a bumper sticker that said "Gals with guns are a lot more fun". My kind of woman.

I've always said that I don't dare play around on my wife. I've taught her to shoot too well. Not that I would, otherwise.

Sallysouth - 8-7-2005 at 08:16 PM

Wise man MR. Bill M!( the part about you wouldn't otherwise):saint:
