El Rosario and more, 7-05 (Part 6, Petrified Forest)

Soon after the Sunday meal at The Baja Cactus Motel, a van was bound for the petrified forest tour... so we joined the others going... The petrified wood was found in a small arroyo in the mud hills on Diamante Del Mar property. It was very nice of DDM staff to allow festival guests to hike in and enjoy the geology found there.

A cholla shaped like a cross was a trail landmark!

Baja Angel holding a piece of wood turned to stone. First there were small pieces, but the further one goes up the little canyon, the bigger the pieces get.

Well, as you can see... this one's too big for me to lift!

This one had a hollow center...

Got Baja? Yup, a piece of it ... But, just for the photo, because it is illegal to remove fossils (incl. fossilized wood).

These samples didn't even look like rock... but they were... now!
