I see the same names forever on most of the subjects on this forum. Do you guys spend all day looking at this stuff ??
Seems like some of you don't have anything else to do but spend your time on this chit. Most of it sounds like 12 grade boys fighting over a cheerleader.

You're right Vandenberg -

They've become like a bunch of bickering old ladies.

They need to get a life - or a girlfriend on the side - or something.

It's incredible how people on this board who claim to have expertise in Baja spend all their time on the freaking computer.

The folks I know who really understand the people and culture of Baja wouldn't even know how to turn a computer on.

capn.sharky - 8-11-2005 at 08:59 AM

"The folks I know who really understand the people and culture of Baja wouldn't even know how to turn a computer on".

Are you saying that those of us that love Baja are too stupid to use a computer. Funny, you claim to be a Baja Lover, and you use a computer. There is alot of good information passed along on this board. Yes, there is some bickering, but find any site and you will find this type of behavior. Lighten up a little. Live and let live.

Braulio speaks Spanish

jrbaja - 8-11-2005 at 09:07 AM

But he sure doesn't understand the people here. I speak almost daily on the computer with two friends who are ranchers from San Bartolo. (A fairly Mexican neighborhood)!
They are both going to college and amazingly enough, they both know how to turn on a computer. :o
Isn't that like saying although you are a fisherman, you shouldn't talk about it when you aren't fishing?

naaaahhh...

eetdrt88 - 8-11-2005 at 09:09 AM

i totally agree with Braulio on that statement...most of the folks i meet down in Baja arent to interested in computers or the internet...and for some reason they seem to be ok without it which is quite unbelievable in this hi-tech era:O:O

You must go to some places that I have missed

jrbaja - 8-11-2005 at 09:13 AM

then EE. Most all of the folks I know are interested in modern technology. Even about half of them in the most rural areas of Baja want to learn.
There is a couple major setbacks for them though. No money to buy one and no power to plug it in.
But then, your the guy that replies to "test" right?

yea..as hard as it is to believe jrbaja

eetdrt88 - 8-11-2005 at 09:35 AM

i probably do go to to places in baja that you dont go...and to be honest with you i've never met anyone in baja as confrontational as you....most of the people i meet are pretty mellow and easy to get along with:O:O

Have we met ?

jrbaja - 8-11-2005 at 09:37 AM

i've only met your internet alter-ego...

eetdrt88 - 8-11-2005 at 09:42 AM

maybe in real life youre a totally different type of person....but i doubt it:lol::lol:

Dumb Love

MrBillM - 8-11-2005 at 09:46 AM

It's interesting to find that only the technology-impaired can properly enjoy Baja. And all of this time I thought I was having a good time.

It's also amusing to find someone attack the Computer Users and the Internet while USING the same thing they are attacking.

Some of us are intelligent enough to do many things in one day. My computer usage, whether in the E.U.A. or Baja, usually amounts to less than 90 minutes maximum, including conducting business and paying bills. It leaves me a lot of time for other things.

Personally

jrbaja - 8-11-2005 at 09:48 AM

I like my alter ego better. It's just so fun to deal with whining chicken coopers who don't know jack about Baja with this personality.

Maybe I'll change my name to BajaCybil:lol::lol::lol:

But, I can be just the same in person if I am dealing with the same kind of idiots as the chicken coop group and crybabies on here!:light:

And again, for the intelligence impaired, that doesn't apply to everyone.

Braulio - 8-11-2005 at 10:11 AM

Sharkey/MrBill - read what I said with a little more care - it's inclusive - I didn't exclude anyone.

I suppose it'd be possible to spend half your life on the freaking computer and still know the people and culture of Baja - not real likely - but possible.

Yeah - there is still a lot of good information here - but you have to wade through a lot to get to it.

Maybe some of these guys making thousands of posts know a lot and just want to share - or maybe they just can't keep their ciberyaps shut - like they have some other issues in their lives that drive them to post so much - you make the call for yourself guys.

A lot of the best sources for info on Baja are older folks - that's just a fact - and fortunately many are computer-savvy and capable of doing ore than one thing in a day. But many tend to be a little less willing to wade - and less willing to put up with the bickering bs that's on here. There's no way of knowing how many of them have been driven off the board - but my guess is a lot.

Oh - well - it's your board now muchachos - have fun with it.

RIGHT on Hose:

We see the same in Muleg

Braulio - 8-11-2005 at 11:40 AM

Yeah - right on Hose - and see how many of them choose to connect and contribute to this site. You can bet that people who have to connect through an internet cafe aren't spending hour after interminal hour with thousands of posts to one site.

And no - it aint just the language barrier thing - although that's surely part of it. Fact is the english literate mexicans I've invited to this site just laugh at it.

Whoops - I forgot - I don't know the people of Baja very well.

Braulio - 8-11-2005 at 12:00 PM

My mistake Hose - I didn't know we were limiting things to teenagers connecting through internet cafes.

As for the bran - jajajaja - that's a good one - yeah - I had mine about 3am this morning.

Right now I'm ready for beer - I guess it shows.

Take care man.

The Gold (Brawlio) Standard

MrBillM - 8-11-2005 at 12:24 PM

It appears that you can relate to and love the People, Culture and Land of Baja if you post roughly 8-10 times per month as the Brawlio does. Apparently, more than that and you're an uncouth technogeek who is unable to live life outside of the Virtual Realm.

Of course, some insight to Brawlio's relationships can be taken by his statement that:
"The folks I know who really understand the people and culture of Baja wouldn't even know how to turn a computer on".

That would be a pretty ignorant group of people. Most people I know, including those who are not geeks, could figure out how to turn one on. Hint-There's an ON button.

As far as the Internet cafe's, there's one in San Felipe that's filled with MEXICANS everytime I go by there.

I appears I should also tell my Landlord's family that they're not going to be able to understand their own people if they continue to waste their time on their computers. The same for my Mexican friends in San Felipe.

I guess that JR is the one who should be most insulted by Brawlio's rant. 4051 posts since 2-2-2003. Judged by the GOLD standard, he obviously has no life at all outside the Internet. Strange when you think about it, because JR is THE Foremost authority on the People, Life and Culture of the "Real People" of Baja. Bamboo, too. How is that possible ?

[Edited on 8-11-2005 by MrBillM]

[Edited on 8-12-2005 by MrBillM]

Wrong again Bill

jrbaja - 8-11-2005 at 01:00 PM

"Strange when you think about it, because JR is THE Foremost authority on the People, Life and Culture of the "Real People" of Baja. Bamboo, too. How is that possible ?"

Although it is true that I have been more places and have more friends in Baja than probably most anyone on here, and I travel and see them fairly regularly in all parts besides the enclaves, I don't really consider myself an expert on much of anything down here.

I do however know my friends feelings, have pictures of the real Baja prior to the americanization, and share most of that on here.
Obviously this will ruffle some feathers on those who pretend to be ofishyonadas and think they are cool because they vacation here.

And yes, I don't mind peeing off the self centered flakes who are full of hot air and guess at whatever they think will make them look cool to the newbies.

Because of my "caustic" attitude with these clowns, I expect to be called on everything I say. Fact is though, nobody can because what I say has actually been lived by me and I can back up everything I have said from the beginning.
There has of course been some controversy about state capitals and u2u'ing but heck, why sweat the small stuff.

The Point Was........................

MrBillM - 8-11-2005 at 01:28 PM

That, according to the Brawlio Standard set forth earlier, you are mong the worst of the bunch. His formulation, not mine. Obviously, if you only post to the extent that he does, you still have enough time to meld with the Culture. Beyond that, Bad and worse.

Muchachos--Love it

Baja Bernie - 8-11-2005 at 01:37 PM

Well I am conflicted, as usual, with this conversations. I find it interesting that a few newby's who have entered our home basically uninvited are now telling people on this board how to act. I resent that even if I do agree with some of their comments.

Lord knows that I have and will continue to encourage muchachos to join Baja Nomad because I believe that new blood is good and that they make us look at ourselves from different eyes and that helps me remain young at heart.

Sadly I am one of those old people who just might have some knowledge that many others have not acquired if for no other reason than the fact that they may have not lived long enough to experience the things that I have. I find that Baja is changing so rapidly that the knowledge attained 40 years ago (or even five years) is no longer available to the younger folks and in most cases it has not been placed in books or even on the internet.
I do spend a lot of time on the internet and I take work breaks by coming here.
Iam a bit literate on the computer as can be seen by the fact that I have written and published two books using the computer to write, edit, and publish same. I spend most of my work time on this machine researching and writing my third book which will be a novel.

Okay so welcome to the mewby's and I ask that they spend a few minutes learning before they becoming critical of our family.

It is sorta like my b-tching about my wife---That's okay, but a stranger better not do it to my face.

Mr Bill did an excellent read and post and yet you say he doesn't even bother to read "much".

I don't have any "interesting Baja Tales" cause I have only been going to and living in Puertecitos for 24 years. Before that the mainland. Guess I am" dull too" !!

bajaloco - 8-12-2005 at 08:48 AM

Braulio....Don't let a few narrow-minded people run you off. Posting on a thread or verbal warefare is no real indication of Baja knowledge.

Some profess to be the all knowing and all seeing...let them. Even noobies can cut thru the b.s. and figure it out. Class clowns always need attention.

In my opinion, the last thing this board needs is to lose anyone who has a real love for Baja and wants to freely share experiences.

Many people don't post because it;s not worth the hassel of dealing with the "GODS OF BAJA"

That is where we all lose...Lighten up everyone....Liife is too short... Gary

I guess we just disagree Sr. Beercan - but let me run an example by you - Sr. Billy says this about Baja Californianos who don't know computers.

For example the guy who worked on my transmission this morning is 3rd generation Baja Californiano - and he doesn't happen to be ignorant. He wouldn't know one end from the other as to a computer - but if you sit down and talk to the guy he has some interesting real life stories about his state.

L - he might even know more than Billy or JR.

Likewise with most oldtimers in BC.

I guess I'm just out of step with most here on this board.

Oh well.

MrBillM - 8-12-2005 at 01:32 PM

I think perhaps I was in error regarding BRAWL-io, it should be BAWL-io.

It is interesting that he complains about my not reading the thread and responses before expressing an opinion on whatever subject I wish. Interesting because he then goes on to MISTATE what I actually say. i.e. I referred (sarcastically) to his statement:

"The folks I know who really understand the people and culture of Baja wouldn't even know how to turn a computer on".

with my own reply:
"That would be a pretty ignorant group of people. Most people I know, including those who are not geeks, could figure out how to turn one on. Hint-There's an ON button."

His summation of the exchange:

" I guess we just disagree Sr. Beercan - but let me run an example by you - Sr. Billy says this about Baja Californianos who don't know computers."
"For example the guy who worked on my transmission this morning is 3rd generation Baja Californiano - and he doesn't happen to be ignorant. He wouldn't know one end from the other as to a computer"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I, in no way, implied that people who didn't know computers were ignorant, although it would have been a correct statement. The dumbing down of our language has resulted in confusion regarding the definition and usage of words. To be ignorant is NOT to be stupid. There are a plethora of subjects on which I am IGNORANT because I haven't studied or been exposed to them. It should go without saying that a person who knows nothing about computers is ignorant on that subject.

Be assured that I read AND comprehend the thread and responses. The ones that are coherent, that is.

Braulio - 8-13-2005 at 08:41 PM

Bill -

You most certainly did imply that people who don't know computers were ignorant in the general sense. If you're looking for examples of the dumbing down of language usage in America maybe you show look inward.

The word "ignorant" can refer either a person who lacks knowledge in the general sense - or it can be used to describe someone lacking knowledge of a specific field.

Anyway I'm glad you staightened us out - in the future when you use the word to describe ignorance of a specific thing you might consider including what the thing is - otherwise how are we to know.

I still don't know what the field you had in mind was - my mechanic is very technically/mechanically inclined - he just doesn't happen to know anything about computers - I suppose he has no need.

Again - thanks for making yourself clear.

Strictly Speaking, Bawlio

MrBillM - 8-14-2005 at 10:10 AM

The word ignorant is used to indicate a lack of knowledge, not a lack of INTELLECT.

As our language has deteriorated, among the less literate the words have become synonymous. I will continue to use the word in it's correct sense. It is not up to me to descend to your level of understanding.

What I wrote was factually correct. My words did not attack anyone's intellect.

Braulio - 8-15-2005 at 12:48 AM

As usual you're wrong on all counts Wilhelm - go to the Miriam-Webster website at:

http://www.m-w.com/

Enter the word "ignorant" in the online dictionary and read definition 1b:

ignorant: "resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence <ignorant errors>".

Now take the word "intelligence" and run it through the thesaurus at the same website.

You'll find that the "intelligence" and "intellect" are synonymous.

So yes Wilhelm - "ignorant" may be used to show lack of intellect.

What's even more important is common usage in polite society.

Consider the following scenario:

It's a hot day in Mexicali.

Wilhelm has had a long day and is longing for a cold libation with some friends. So he stops off at the Berlin 77 bar on his way home. He asks the bartender for a "Washington Apple".

The bartender says, "I'm sorry sir - I don't know how to make one".

Wilhelm says, "You're ignorant".

The bartender says, "What?".

Wilhelm repeats, "You're ignorant."

As Wilhelm's body is shot like a missile through the front door, it occurs to him that he won't be having a cold libation with his friends that particular afternoon.

He sits confused with his butt in the stinking gutter - thinking to himself, "What I said was factually correct. My words did not attack anyone's intellect".

Machs nichts - tonight Wilhelm drinks alone.

Wilhelm - Listen dude - I have to grab a flight to Guadalajara in 9 hours. I really don't have any more time for this - so you'll get the last word. Let me just leave you with some friendly advice. When you use words that may possibly be construed to be provocative make your meaning clear. Eliminate ambiguity. Choose courtesy over being what you perceive is factually correct.

Your remarks offended me - and people I know and love.

Wedersehen wey.

Oh - and BTW - I recommend the Berlin 77 for folks needing to cool off if they're in the downtown Mexicali.

Gee, now you're imagining encounters to make your point. You need to back off on those Chemicals.

I have three printed dictionaries (remember books ?) and they all simply list "lack of knowledge", but then they are all around twenty years old which goes back to my statement about the deterioration of the language. Be that as it may, it doesn't alter what I said. The meaning (as stated by me) is the PRIMARY definition of the word as I intended it. Even your online search showed "lack of knowledge" as the first definition.
It is not up to YOU to decide what I intended. If there is more than one explanation, you decide to interpret it in the worst context. That's your problem. I could care less. Your opinion is of no value to me.

Keep up with your imagined events.
