Wintering in BOLA

bajabum - 8-15-2005 at 09:21 AM

I have never been to BOLA but I hear its a wonderfull place. I plan on spening 4 months there this winter from November-February.

Does anyone know if the marina can accomodate a 65 sport fisher? do they have marine fuel? Is there a bait barge? And is there a Walmart or shopping center there for supplies? This might be a little bit of a stretch, but what about a starbucks?

I think your joking, but in any case I think you'd be better off in La Paz and make exploration trips north.

 Actually, I would suggest that you try San Diego, You won't get your white deck shoes dirty messed up when you step on the dock.

If you are serious about these questions you better bring your own brand of tobacco with you to last you thru the entire vacation!!!

Good luck,

Maybe not so far fetched for 10-15 years out. It's only so long that such a beautiful place can stay undeveloped!

It looks to me like nobody actually answered your questions.

The answer is NO.

None of those things are available in Bahia de Los Angeles, but it is a wonderful place. If it had even some of the things you ask about, it would no longer be a wonderful place, in my opinion.

Well, the bay can support anchorage of a 65 footer, and "maybe" on a really high-tide you could get fuel pumped in.

Other wise you can always use jerry cans, but that might take you a couple days!:biggrin:

Forget the Starbucks. It's so full of Eurotrash from the cruise ships in the winter, it'll take you half an hour to get a latte.

Have you ever spent four months on a boat that small? It's fine for the first couple of weeks, but you go stir crazy real quick. I would suggest you have your captain and crew take the boat down, and then fly in when the fishing or the weather, or both, are good.
Better yet upgrade to a boat with a helipad, helicopter garage and refueling station. That way you don't have to wait until the captain gets the boat to port. Have fun.

Actually....

I am very familiar with BOLA and have been enjoying wandering around Baja for quite some time.

I just got tired of reading all the posts lately that somehow always seem to turn into a JR melee and wanted to lighten things up a tad! His personal agenda and opinions have become a little tiresome.

My boat is (was) a 17' aluminum

I dont have white deck shoes (they are blue!)

I have no affiliation with the Ensenada.com website

And I prefer beach sand in my camp stove coffee, this is a flavor that starbucks doesnt offer!

I have actually been all the way down as far south as Ensenada many times so I have a pretty good idea what Baja is all about.

Just havin a little fun :lol::lol::lol:

A worthy effort in light of all the other crap that's been going on. Maybe we'll see you in BOLA!

DavidT yours was well thought out and funny also. Welcome!

comitan - 8-18-2005 at 12:09 PM

Bajabum,

All kidding aside if as far south as you have been is Ensenada, you are in for a very pleasant surprise, if they can pry you away from there when its time to go home.
