Hurricane Hilary satellite image....closing in towards Baja

I think that the headline of this post is very misleading. There is nothing in any forecast I have read that would indicate that Hilary will come anywhere near Baja.
However there is another right behind her.

Hilary has intensified into a hurricane, and will continue to
strengthen on Sunday. Currently, Hilary is located 390 miles southwest of Acapulco, Mexico, and is moving just a touch north of west at 13 mph. It is possible that the storm will become a major hurricane, with sustained winds over 115 mph, before it moves over cooler water in a few days. Hurricane Hilary presents no threat to land as the storm will continue to move away from the Mexican coast, and will probably meet its demise sometime late next week as it turns northwest over the cooler Pacific waters.

There is also a significant area of deep convection associated with a tropical wave which has emerged off of the Central American coast. If this wave maintains its convection and develops a closed circulation, it would become our next tropical depression.

Of course being a weatherman is one of the few jobs that you can be wrong over and over again and still keep your job.

So we went out yesterday and gassed up and got water and groceries, etc.

I was certainly not trying to mislead anyone on my post of Hurricane Hilary heading towards Baja. I am currently scanning sat. images and also last second forecasts by NASA weather which just said the progress is towards the northwest (Cabo san Lucas) at 11 mph. But weather is weather and whether or not it will happen is anybody's guess. It is quite a distance away currently. I just thought people should be advised in case of a worst case scenario. Sorry if this is alarming to some.

Anon, I donot mnd you Posting weather reports, but would Appreciate that you put your name to the Post.

I too watch the weather Reports through NOAA and wunderground. Here in the Texas Panhandle we all have to be on our toes for the Tornados.

I was setting in a Motorhome about 100 yards from the Beach next to the hotel Oasis in Loreto when "Lisa' hit La Paz.

What you really need to watch is if "Hilary makes a slight Adjustment to the North and picks up speed, then she may Hit the West coast, seems that in the past, the land Mass sometimes splits the Storm.

Anyway it is fun to watch and try to predict.

Indeed, Skeet, weather has been the foremost topic of mankind since we got caught in that first rainstorm millenia ago.

By the way, what has happened to the decorum of this forum? I don't remember Baja Nomads being so insulting.

bajajudy - 8-21-2005 at 09:33 AM

Anon
If I could u2u you I would but since I cant, I will say that I did not intend to insult anyone. Just didnt want people to panic and think that there was a hurricane definitely headed for Baja

bajajudy....it was not your response to which I was referring. It was the Bruce R Leech post --"at least you know what you are talking about".

I was thinking of the tragedy of the tidal wave in Indonesia and the hundreds of thousands of lives that were lost when notice of coming events was ungiven. Perhaps I am overly cautious.

anon if you look back at your past posts to me and others on this forum you would see why there are many here are not happy to see your posts .

By the way, what has happened to the decorum of this forum toward anon? is due to your insulting and rude behaver. oh I know your going to say it wasn't me. but Anon is Anon.:barf:

Too Early To Worry

MrBillM - 8-21-2005 at 10:26 AM

The forecast track (NW) is well to the West of Cabo, which lies more or less NNW of the current position.

Perhaps Anonymous, because of learning disabilities, doesn't know his name. Take pity on the retarded.

Anon; You ask the Million Dollar Question!

Skeet/Loreto - 8-21-2005 at 10:30 AM

Since you ask and I am one to "Tell itlike it is" I will make an attempt and see what happens.

Some background is necessary. I went on to the Amigos board just as I left Loreto after living there 17 years fulltime.
At that time there were a few Posters and a real good board . Baja Sur and Loreto had not yet be truly known as Baja Norte got all the Press from David K, the Desert Racers and Bay of Los Angeles was "The In"Place. Mike H,Bernie Jimmy Smith, Neals John, Keri, Geo rock, and many others were posting.

There was a BBB and then a Baja Book signing, then the War came alon gand changed all of our Lives.

I remember that as I posted on the Amigos, then the Nomads that here was lots of Questions and interest in Loreto, then more and more people came on Board and Earle stopped the Amigos and Doug Started this board which has Grown.

I starteed noticing the changes first when Bedman, BajaBus, chopy Chaves and others started really got into the Liberal/Conservative Politics on he Off Topic.
Stephani Jacktar, ND,Margie, Grover,BajaBus and others on one side with my Self, and others on the otherside.
As the Election process and the War went along the posts seem to get lower and lower into Name calling at such and I did some }
It seemed that every time anyone would post a position on a subject someone would Jump in and start name Calling and using a lot of Profanity.

To close this I can only think that the recent elections and the War have brought out the worst in People and we have forgotten our Manners

The Anon thing has again got off into a poor manners thing, that is why you got jumped.as well as offerrring a opinion which may or may not have any bearing on the actual Facts.

Posters just seem to be a little jumpy these days.

Skeet/Loreto

Just in case you missed it

jrbaja - 8-21-2005 at 10:33 AM

The thing about anons is that, when a bunch of jerkanons make attacks on here for a period of time, the niceanons are sure to suffer because of words of the jerkanons previously made. Even though the niceanons are probably wonderfulanons, they have to live down the reputation of the jerkanons prior to being accepted as a niceanon. And even then, they are still someanon that is so hard to recognize it's barely worth trying as they look just like the restanons!

This anon seems probably like a niceenoughanon, but, predicting weather using that title, is a little misleading. Because of recent events on this board, I think exactness would be a good path to follow at this time.
Or, expect to get called on it. Especially as an anon. poster.

But thanks for the warning/good intentions.

Good Point!

Skeet/Loreto - 8-21-2005 at 10:49 AM

We were all subject to ANOnS and to ND posting all the Bad Stuff as well as others, everybody got a little jumpy.
I for one resented the Posts of some of those People Crying that :The Sea Of cortez was 90% Devastated".
That is completely False. The Poster did everything they could to try to make the Nomads beleive the False Statements.

I suggest that you sign onto the Board with a name and be able to back up what you say with Facts or show it as opinion.
There are a nice bunch of people on this board.

Skeet/Loreto

P.S> From thelast Weather Report, in my Opinion, theStorm will not hit Cabo.

Skeet

All said and one - in 3-4 days we will all know how the predictions worked out. until the we'll all wonder.
