El Rosario Weekend 8/20/05 in Photos Part 1 (New Truck, La Bocana Beach)

David K - 8-22-2005 at 01:58 PM

On the General Baja forum I outlined our trip this past weekend. It was a quick get-a-way and to bring my new truck to Baja as an introduction to where she would be doing most of her four wheeling.

I didn't know I would have the truck until Friday afternoon, as it had just arrived and the nice people at the dealership made the lease transfer a smooth deal (2001 Tacoma Xtra Cab for a 2005 Tacoma Double Cab, both 4WD TRD models).

A surprised Baja Angel was waiting when we drove up to her home in it!

Dinner at Tacos El Yaqui in Rosarito was our first stop... and then pretty much a solid drive to El Rosario where we had a room at Antonio and Lorenia's Baja Cactus Motel...

Breakfast the next morning at 'Baja's Best' (Starbucks logo painted on side) on the far end of town... Then off to La Bocana beach to enjoy the sand and sea... and the first test in 4WD (less than 24 hours since obtaining the truck)!

Not a stress or strain... was too easy!

My kids are getting too big for the tight back seats in the Xtra Cab, plus now friends can ride with us to Baja... a Double Cab was needed!

The tide was very low exposing lots of mussles and other goodies...

Baja Angel is checking out the shell fish...

David K - 8-22-2005 at 02:03 PM

We could walk way out past the normally island rock, and look back to the beach my truck is parked on...

Here's Baja Angel and I with one of those 'at arm's length' shots...

David K - 8-22-2005 at 02:05 PM

Yup, I am really happy... Now, I need to really work hard to pay for this!!!

Nope... actually I have only ever needed to air down on the gulf side beaches which are 50% crushed sea shell, and don't compact like the finer Pacific sand.

On Sunday night about 9 pm we crossed north at Tecate, only 25 min. wait... line constantly was moving...

I will have to get back to you on that, but I am guessing Fremont...

Nice truck David. Great photos too. Now, what about all those stickers that you lost on your old truck? Stickers! We need stickers! :smug:

Steekers? What steekers? We don't need to show you no stinkin' steekers!

4baja - 8-23-2005 at 07:10 PM

dave why the short bed? i will be getting one myself next year but with the long bed and king cab only. need a place to sleep in the back.

David K - 8-23-2005 at 07:25 PM

Hi Stevo,

With the double cab you loose about a foot in the bed (to keep the overall same <approx.> length)... As I want it to still fit in my garage, and be short enough for good off roading.

Yes, they now offer a double cab with the longer 6' bed... but I can get my irrigation parts and tools to fit in this shorter 5' bed.

Let me tell you, this new Tacoma is SWEET! Quieter, smoother, roomier, more powerful, and better gas milage, too! The full size back seats were mandatorty as Chris and Sarah are just too big to ride for any length of time in back of the Xtra cab... Plus I can now take adults in the back, in total comfort...

What about the stinking steekers?:wow:

Did you miss this photo in my trip report, Bob?

The salesman transfered my Coco's Corner and Mexico Hwy. 1 sticker and I added a new 'got baja? (trimmed to oval) and Viva Baja sticker... Some things are just too important!

bajajudy - 10-24-2005 at 06:06 PM

Looks like a great trip, David.
Thank you, thank you for the Hector fix!
Keep em coming

David K - 10-24-2005 at 06:09 PM

Sure thing Judy... I think your reply was meant for this thread, however: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=13595 (last weekend and the Hector monument)

Thanks for the nice words!

Thank you!
Below my posts are two links... One is to my web site 'VivaBaja.com' and the other to a frequently updated notebook.. Go to them and go crazy looking at photos, links, and other Baja stuff, like maps and articles.

How about telling us about you? When did you get 'Baja Fever'? Where have you gone and what are your favorite places in Baja? (maybe on a seperate thread)
