BajaNomad

Note on Pemex (gasoline) and Tacoma milage for 8-20-05

David K - 8-24-2005 at 12:25 AM

My new truck's first fill up was at Baja Cactus Pemex, El Rosario... price per litre was $6.06 pesos and the exchange rate was $10.40 pesos per dollar... $22.94 pesos : gallon ...or US$2.21 per gallon (Magna/Regular).

The first fill up was 16.9 gallons and we drove 300.2 miles from the dealership that night to El Rosario and got 17.8 MPG. It would have been better, but I didn't realize it was a 5 speed auto., and the selector for 4th speed is next to the D (Drive) location which goes into 5th, overdrive... so I kept it in position 4... too funny!

I put some gas in at San Vicente on the way home (34.66 litres/ 9.2 gallons) for $210 pesos, $10.5 pesos : dollar ... or US$20... (US$2.17/ gallon).

Back in the U.S.A after another 260.1 miles, I paid $2.739/gallon (Valero station in Lakeside) for 14.6 gallons... 17.82 MPG... combined fast and slow highway, 25 min. border wait, and some city driving on Monday.

Diver - 8-24-2005 at 05:54 AM

I thought you people drove those things to save money on gas ??
I have a '94 F250 4x4 diesel that still gets 17 mpg with an elephant in tow !! Besides, I am too big to get comfy in an immitation truck.
My wife's explorer gets 18 to 20mpg on regular and it even has a "GOT BAJA" sticker in the window !

Bruce R Leech - 8-24-2005 at 06:52 AM

hay that is right I did not see any Got Baja stickers on that new truck David K.

I wouldn't be caught dead without mine.

David K - 8-24-2005 at 07:13 AM

It has the 'got baja?' and 'Viva Baja stickers' on it before we entered Mexico!

I also transfered over my Coco's Corner and Mexico 1 stickers from my 2001... That's all for now. La Tijereta sent me a SCORE sticker I may apply.

The fuel milage should get better as this new motor breaks in and I keep it below 90 mph.

Last fill up, around town driving with highway at speed: 17 MPG (just over 1,000 miles on it after one week)...

I really need to resisit the power it has for accelerating!:o

All that's missing

jrbaja - 8-29-2005 at 09:53 PM

is the Hawaiian shirt, camera, white socks and black shoes.:lol::lol:

Bob and Susan - 8-30-2005 at 06:02 AM

NO...what's missing is a NICE bamboo bed rack...:lol:

David K - 8-30-2005 at 07:55 AM

Black shoes?

bajaloco - 8-30-2005 at 09:41 AM

It's a tourist thing David.....

David K - 8-30-2005 at 07:52 PM

Oh, ok... thanks! I guess that since I am not a tourist in Baja, that would be the reason for my question (I consider myself a visitor, traveler, explorer, vacationer.. but never a tourist)!:lol::lol:

A tourist

jrbaja - 8-31-2005 at 08:36 AM

is someone who takes offense at being called one.

A tourist is someone who thinks he is cool because he has visited somewhere and then considers himself an expert.

A tourist is someone who gives lot's of advice about somewhere without knowing what they are talking about.

A tourist posts photos of his "friends" and family rather than anything of importance regarding the places being visited.

A tourist realizes how ridiculous a good portion of his postings are and them deletes them after replies are made.

You may not consider yourself a tourist david but then you probably don't consider yourself a whiner either!:lol::lol:

comitan - 8-31-2005 at 09:13 AM

Jr

Don't you just love it, he's so easy. Just sit back tonight and say David K fell right into my trap and I sure got him.

Diver - 8-31-2005 at 09:16 AM

Wait just a minute !
I'm a tourist and not offended to be called one.
I'm an expert at nothing but I'm cool for other reasons; ask my kids.
Advice ? What do you want to know ??
My friends all hide from the camera - Pompano must be a paparatzi.
Many of my posts are ridiculous but I don't ever delete them.
All in fun JR !!:spingrin::biggrin:

No problem Diver

jrbaja - 8-31-2005 at 09:19 AM

sounds like we have a lot in common!:lol::lol:

Diver - 8-31-2005 at 09:23 AM

Comitan,
You are the funny one now !!:lol:
But soooo correct.

Neither one can help himself !
I think they're both OK, though; just different !

it sounds as if jrbaja has a slight crush on davidk..

eetdrt88 - 8-31-2005 at 09:27 AM

why else would he go on with this banter???its all been said before...but apparently it must excite him in some sort of strange way:O:O

Actually, david and I work together on this project

jrbaja - 8-31-2005 at 09:29 AM

giving the senior citizens of El Centenario something to comment on and spice up their lives just a little before they turn to stone!:lol::lol:

Diver - 8-31-2005 at 09:29 AM

JR,

My wife monitors all my outgoing emails otherwise I would have a lot more fun ! Part of me is probably a lot like you ! (Don't tell anyone !):lol:

Look forward to visiting the bamboo farms some time in late January or February if you're around.

comitan - 8-31-2005 at 09:30 AM

Diver

I think they are both OK also, but its all so predictable, and now so funny. Hey diver your coming to La Paz in Dec. You'll have to stop by.

Predictable yes

jrbaja - 8-31-2005 at 09:37 AM

boring when it's not going on? --- also yes!

Unless of course you consider how many fishing poles one has as excitement. Or let's have a party but "what's your sign?

Sounds like those green turtle expeditions had more of an effect on Baja than I originally thought! Maybe I'll set up a "head shop" at Baja Bamboo.:lol::lol:

Diver - 8-31-2005 at 09:38 AM

eewhatever,

In case you haven't realized, David and JR are both grown men.
They normally do just fine even when they dissagree.

The offenses taken by others are often what starts the ruin of the original thread.....maybe it exites you ??............let's not !

(I'm not defending anyone, just making a point. I've enjoyed the tone of the Board with gentle banter rather than more tough talk for the past few weeks. Thanks all !)

Diver - 8-31-2005 at 09:43 AM

Comitan,

We won't hit La Paz until late January, we have about a week planned with some friends at La Ventana. I'll bring the laptop to check the board and would love to meet as many Nomads as possible.

I'm in it for the adventure ! And I've made some GREAT friends in Baja.

Diver - 8-31-2005 at 09:48 AM

OK JR,

How many fishing poles DO you have ?

And, What's yer sign man ? :o

Head shop ? Tell me where it is later, I'll forget !

diverdumbass,

eetdrt88 - 8-31-2005 at 09:49 AM

Pompano - 8-31-2005 at 10:28 AM

Pompano must have read this and is now sitting out on the boat wearing that old stupid T-shirt "I am a Local, not a Tourist", counting his fishing rods, his digital camera hanging around his neck (along with the bottle opener), wearing those same god-awful white stretchy socks with his black boat slippers and snapping pictures of everything in sight. I can see his face throught the binocs and there is a little tear rolling down his cheek. When he left, he was mumbling (as he often does) something about never posting another dang thing on that stupid forum. Are you people not being nice to him? Don't get me mad!....Felipa

Jr: I admire your pictures, but you say nothing about them, you do not give an explanation on anything just 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.
That leaves a lot out as oposed to DK that does contribute w/ the story behind the picture. That is a local's opinion;D
