Baja Cactus in El Rosario is one of those few honest metered Pemex stations. David Eidell always was fond of the El Rosario Pemex when he did his
random checks back in the Amigos de Baja days before we got to meet Antonio and his family. As El Rosario is 225 miles from the border, it is within
the range of most vehicles from San Diego for your first fill up, if you continue south.
Keep your calculator handy...

Kind of hard to do when I fill up 5 gallon cans with 18.9 Liters for my dune buggy.

I will be leaving in November to Mulege/La Paz
I will need to buy Gas every 480 miles/ 80 gal.
I will fuel in Bakerfield's Costco and believe I will need to fuel in El Rosarieo de Arriba. Sooner??
Are there any warnings or suggestions before or after that?
As I only get about 6.5 miles per gal. Price is verrry important.
I'm not to hot on fueling in TJ to get the best price. I know that Bakerfield is 2.89 for 91 Oct. sholud I short fuel there to get into Mexico?
Time except getting thru Customs at TJ early, is of no importance.

There is not an accurate gas pump delivery of fuel on the Baja Peninsula. PERIOD.
You cannot tell EXACTLY what is beind dispensed when you only put gas in your car tank!
You must carry an empty 5 gallon can with you, in which to fill it up only to the 19 liter/5.0 gallon mark.
Then and only then will you and the gas pump attendant, both see just what the pump meter shows when you fill to the mark on the gas can.
I have done this test at my stations where I stop for gas.
All are innacurate. All of them.
Even the blessed El Rosario Pemex of Antonio's..
This is Mexico, and remote Mexico, at that.
Also, since I can go 300+ miles in my Honda CR-V, which has a 15 gallon tank, the inaccuracy at the pumps doesn't really bother me financially.
It is just the principle.
But always remember this: that the gas station is screwing over it's own Mexican population, who can only buy 50 pesos worth at a time, where we drive
up in our SUV's, Pick-ups, and fill the tank full.
We all get screwed equally at the gas pump. Yeah, equally alike percentage wise.
And that rarely happens like this on any other item you buy in Mexico.

I can only repeat to what David Eidell reported, who used measured containers at El Rosario's Pemex... It was right on, and maybe the only Pemex that
was...
From my friendship with Antonio, I can tell you they do not mess with the meter... Honesty is very important to them... The motel next door is what
supplements the Pemex income, plus their Tijuana businesses (printing company, Internet cafe).
If an attendent ever short changes you or is unprofessional there, please take note of his name (they all have name badges) and/or time and date of
