LOS ANGELES -- A Woodland Hills man charged with clubbing his Ukrainian girlfriend to death with a baseball bat was found dead this week in a hotel in
Mexico, according to the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana.
Liza Davis of the consulate said Brian Joseph Cullen, 58, apparently shot himself at the Hotel Gigante. Hotel workers found his body on Sunday, Davis
said. It was unclear when he died.
Cullen was charged with murder for the July 26 slaying of Iryna Singerman, 21, an aspiring model. Her body was found Aug. 2 in the bed of Cullen's
pickup truck, which was parked at a storage facility in Winnetka.
Police immediately began seeking Cullen, who was believed to have gone to Mexico.
The Ukrainian-born woman was married to Ronald Singerman, 50, a certified public accountant who met her one year ago through an agency that matches
American men with Russian women, police said.
A bloody baseball bat and some of Iryna Singerman's financial documents were found in garbage bags that were found in a bin behind a Woodland Hills
strip mall.
Cullen became a suspect in her disappearance because of surveillance camera images and a witness who reported seeing him toss bags into the bin on
July 26. The next day, authorities found blood and other evidence of a struggle when they searched Cullen's Woodland Hills home, police said.
Neighbors said the woman spent most weekends at Cullen's house and police have said they were buying another house together in Northridge. Police said
Singerman knew nothing about his wife's double life and believed her when she said modeling work kept her away from home.
