The NEW turn-off to get back to the border is blocked off.
You need to take the old route and make the U-turn.
I wondered why the signs said to turn...until...too late
We took the "tour" of the town
Thank god it was light out still...what a place
I'm glad we didn't have the boat
Border wait was 45 minutes and the border guard was extra nice and professional....holiday pay????David K - 9-6-2005 at 06:34 AM

I found out too late last month too. I ended up taking that thoroughfare through the city and crossing at Otay. Actually I never got "lost", per se,
although I didn't know where I was headed. It took 20 minutes to get to Otay and 25 minutes to cross there - so I figured the same amount of time
spent, although more driving back home from Otay for me. I'm going to try the La Colonia turnoff and try to get to Paseo Heroes and get in line that
one next time.Taco de Baja - 9-6-2005 at 09:42 AM
Encountered the same thing coming into TJ back on August 28th. Had to go up to the next exit do the loops through the two traffic circles head back
down the hill and get back on the road to the road that parallels the border. Kind of scary having this happen at 8:00pm, with no idea of where we
might be headed. Luckily, it all worked out ok, and all in our caravan had 2-way radios to keep the group together.
I sure hope they reopen that ramp soon, or at least post better signage about a detour.
Looking at a map here at home I see we could have continued straight and eventually gotten to the border, but looks like a lot of traffic signals to
you down. I prefer the road paralleling the border, except for the corrupt cops that ticket the gringos for ?speeding? even though the gringos are
being passed by the locals??David K - 9-6-2005 at 07:13 PM

OKAY... after reading Taco de Baja's post, I now know what you are describing!
You are going NORTHBOUND, on the TOLL ROAD from Ensenada TO Tijuana, past Playas de Tijuana, just about to take that new right exit that takes you UP
the steep hill and along the border fence... HOWEVER, you say it is BLOCKED... So, we should (for now) take the exit just before (as we did before
that better one was made) and drop down to the circle TJ road and then make that U Turn to head UP the hill.Dave - 9-6-2005 at 07:26 PM

Or, you could just continue on eastbound. You will end up in exactly the same place.
Trust me.

Is so correct and you get a chance to see the Churches and the smiling (not) people as they rush from all corners of the intersection.
Tis Fun and it takes you right past some of the revered old spots in downtown TJ. Probably faster because you are paying attention to the sights and
the people--Like--hey, I remember that house over there I bought my first leather coat there back in 1968 and that other spot====and over there. TJ
is always changing but somehow always staying the same.
The magic of Baja is all over and not just on Shell Beach, Bola, or Cabo, or, or, or.

now Bernies right...you do see a lot..
I saw a dentist office upstairs run by 4 women doctors....
I also saw kids on ladders spray painting grafitti on the side of a building...magical
and the traffic...WOW!!!
I think I'll stick to the border fence route...it's WAY better
