Who can post the most?????????????

Phil S - 9-16-2005 at 08:19 AM

Reading the post of one liners about posting numbers, and I look 12 inches to the left at a Hallmark postum and at the bottom it says, "Whoever has the most memos when he dies, wins!" And I suppose the race to the end just to have "#'s" of posts means the same. It slowly is weighing on my wanting to read & occationally participate on subjects of Baja. But alas, there are those who just want to post to accumulate the "numbers". This is a great chat room, and have enjoyed 99.999% of it. But I find myself 'wading through' a lot of nothings, to get to the "good stuff"!!! But is there anyway that comments just for the "count" can be managed?????? I'd enjoy others comments regarding this subject. IS it just me??

David K - 9-16-2005 at 08:25 AM

Phil, I just love Baja a lot and enjoy sharing my experiences and exchanging 'small talk' with all you Nomads... I am not trying to be the highest poster and I do delete my posts if I come across them and they are no longer relevent, which lowers the number.

Will be going to El Rosario later today to party Mexican style!

Small things

Al G - 9-16-2005 at 08:27 AM

I don't worry about "little" thing.
I do not believe there is an answer and nor should there be.

rpleger - 9-16-2005 at 09:10 AM

One more post for me.

Eli - 9-16-2005 at 09:28 AM

Phil,

What you can do is go to search and review post by who you know will post of what is interest to you and only open their posts.

Also, certainly there have been "those posters" who's name when I see it, I don't even bother to open the thread. I know it is just going to be Dibble or irriating.

As to the one liners tossing out sillness, sometimes I really enjoy their banter.

I think Fred's board is much strickter, and information only oriantated, you might try there if all the junk gets to you.

At the same time, if you are only irritated with .001%, you are doing much better than me, I would give the irritable posting a higher rating, although latly the % of what bugs me has dropped hugely. Still, I love freedom of speech and am more than willing to do a little wading in order to protect my right to say what I want when I want to.

I don't bother to read 80% of what is posted on Nomads. (Edited this, as I felt it might be misconstruted as unkind thought).

Cardon - 9-16-2005 at 09:50 AM

Making lots of posts when you have something to say that is informative, interesting or funny is a good thing. But to post inane comments just to get the numbers up is called "Post Whoring"- and its something we can sure do without.

bajaden - 9-16-2005 at 10:38 AM

Well, I'm not sure if I should be serious or make an attempt at humor. I certainly don't care how many posts I have and therefore don't post for that reason. I was taught in school, yes, I went to school, that a good writer is one that says what he or she has to say in the fewest amount of words.

I don't claim to be a good writer, although like many wanabe authors on this board I wish I were.

I find that many posters take themselves too seriously, and so I try to bring a little humor at times. Brevity is the soul of wit, or so I'm told.

I enjoy reading David K and Sharks and others for a lot of different reasons. They all bring their personality and talent to the board. Unlike Eli, I probably read 80% of the posts, including Eli's.

I try never to criticize the people who participate for their participation. Not everyone is a great speller or has the writing ability of Osprey, but at least they try..............

Sharksbaja - 9-16-2005 at 12:20 PM

hey this is great, I can up my numbers and compliment bajaden for a good reply all at the same time. Oh, life is sweet!

bajajudy - 9-16-2005 at 12:36 PM

I don't really understand where this thread is coming from but I am actually embarassed by the number of posts I have.
We do get silly sometimes but we are all friends trying to share our experiences in Baja and have some fun. I don't see any harm in that.
We can't really take any of this too seriously, can we?

By the way, has anyone noticed that my island has the hiccups...

mulege marv - 9-16-2005 at 12:36 PM

well i think its just you, or maybe not, well i know for sure it isnt me. i could care less how many posts i or anyone has, i usually read most all of them (now) anyway. sometimes one line is enough, and sometimes one line is to much, but thats just my opinion. and that reminds me where is Bruce ?

 score another one for me richard

Phil S.: you must be a guy that sweats the small stuff. In the grand scheme of things this doesn't really matter and I am surprised it is given much thought.

Tucker - 9-16-2005 at 02:12 PM

Wow Phil, this thread turned out to be "A lot of nothings", generated by you!

Eli - 9-16-2005 at 02:12 PM

Holy Mole, Judy, I sure hope that bouncing island is not a sign of things to come. One more month and we will pratically speaking out of hurricane season. The next two weeks being the most crucial. Ay, yi, yippee doggies, me.

Some of the most powerful emotion is expressed in so few words:
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country!
Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead!
Frankly Charlotte, I don't gave a damn!
What a ride! Bravo Osprey

...it is just you.

my preference ....

thebajarunner - 9-16-2005 at 07:23 PM

would be to eliminate the "post count" altogether.
Not sure just what that means, but it seems to lead to some pretty strange levels of competition and recognition.
Sometimes I think ( and this is pretty far out) that some of our more prolific posters wait until a windy day, then they attach the window shade sash to their mouse, and click, click, click, click.... you get the message.
Post what is good stuff, put a bag around the rest!!

Bajarunner

Baja Bernie - 9-16-2005 at 07:25 PM

Who is to say what is the good stuff?

Tucker - 9-16-2005 at 07:28 PM

Bajarunner, I suggested that a while back, not a real popular idea at the time. http://www.forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=9617#pid7...

Tucker - 9-16-2005 at 07:32 PM

At that time the "Baja Bad Boyz" were trying to run the show, folks might be more receptive now.

thebajarunner - 9-16-2005 at 07:32 PM

Bernie- good stuff speaks for itself!
sort of like wine, if it is good, you know it - bad, you spit it out...
anything that is not name calling and spite filled is o.k. by me.
(and, your stuff is just fine with me- even your 'avatar name')

Tucker- you been reading my mail??
right on with that ancient post!!

posting anyway?

Tucker - 9-16-2005 at 08:33 PM

Sharks, as long as there are ego-driven folks, or people with other agendas, there wont be any totally good posting.

Tucker

Baja Bernie - 9-16-2005 at 09:02 PM

Wow! Do I agree with that most lucid statement.

My hat is off to you.

Sharksbaja - 9-16-2005 at 09:12 PM

That's a good enough point Tuck but as with any collection of subscribers it's not too surprising. The egotist/agendacists needs to print without indicting others. THAT can be tricky. They constantly have to prove themselves better with personal comparisons and ridicule. Most (others posters) see through it. Methinks it probably scares some off.

I would rather be slingin' seafood tonight though. Manana for sure..
