Las Pintas is a great place... it will amaze you...

My first visit was in July, 2000 with Lorenzo de Baja: http://www.vivabaja.com/davidlorenzo/dlpage2.html

My second visit was with amigos attending M's BBBB-1, in the Viva Baja Van: http://www.vivabaja.com/van1/page4.html

Hope you enjoyed the tour! Remember, the camera only captures a tiny bit... there always is much more to see, plus the experience of being in a magic place like this cannot be duplicated on the Internet! David

Thanks David, great pics!! Love the one with the shadows!

lOOk's like a Rocky Baja Romance...

...great stuff as always - got to git' down, over and around there to take a peek!

bajablue - 9-19-2005 at 09:17 PM

DK,
amazing photos and info, as always.. That you for sharing the experience and Happy Birthday!!

David K - 9-19-2005 at 09:45 PM

Thank you my friends! Remember, every dirt road in Baja goes 'somewhere' (usually somewhere interesting)!

When you come to a fork in the road... TAKE IT!

Where the road ends, put on your boots!

El Rosario has so many great places nearby! I am just begining to scartch the surface!

Tucker - 9-19-2005 at 09:55 PM

I've heard that if you are asked where a road "goes". The answer should always be "nowhere, it stays right there".

David K - 9-19-2005 at 10:08 PM

Neal Johns says: "If you come to a fork in the road and don't take it, God will get you!":light:

I would much rather have Baja Nomads who love the land be regular visitors there and showing the value of preserving the site, then the locals (?) who keep defacing these historic places with their grafitti thinking nobody cares or it is not important enough to leave alone.

This is great stuff David. No longer will most of us think of just blowing through the El Rosario area. We've been passing through, usually without stopping (except for gas) for years.
Thanks again.

Yup, it is fun to explore and find cool stuff or to see for yourself what you have read about in books or on the Internet... Here is the view north from a high point on the Punta San Carlos graded road, on our way back to Baja Cactus Motel... Oh, by the way... I have some more photos from Sunday when we drove to the beach near El Socorro, on our way home... stay tuned!

DK...

Question: on the way to Las Pintas, when you make the left turn out of arroyo san fernando on the final stretch to the site. Was there a big washout there in the mesquite patch, and how was the transit across that area..Whaen I was there in feb 04 we had to stop there and walk the 1.8 miles in. Would have tried it but was very loaded ( so was my truck:lol:) and with wife and three year old decided not to.. just curious..

Also, did you see any heavy machinery out there?? in 04 ther was what looked like an oversized log splitter(I'm sure it was something else) maybe a quarter mile from the site on the left going in.. I feared they were going to try and excavate some of the fossil stone in slabs:no:.

Great report!! Truly one very cool hidden Baja treasure.. Could you imagine eating those oysters? Some of the fossil shells are bigger than my size 12 flip flops! TT

David K - 10-3-2005 at 05:50 PM

Hi TT,

I was able to drive all the way in, and the part where you turn left, out of Arroyo San Fernando was looking like it was washed out from all that rain... we were on a newer track winding through the mesquite (read Baja pin stripes) for a 100 ft. then in the original gully road.

No machinery or signs of humans, other than the road, fire pit, and grafitti (sad).

Nice stuff David,
Baja Vida and I need to swing over there next Feb. en route to San Ignacio lagoon.
You better plan to go along this time...
We eat good and have lots of stories you have not yet heard!!

Tomas Tierra - 10-3-2005 at 07:03 PM

DK

I had great luck with Maguire's cleaner wax and a buffing wheel for th pin stripes:wow:

David K - 10-3-2005 at 07:31 PM

Thanks 'runner... I really would love to go!

TT... I am trying a light duty polishing rub first (new paint afterall)... but will go to the stronger stuff on the deeper scrstches... But, what 'real Baja rig' doesn't have pin stripes, afterall?

Taking advantage of a wet morning here in Oceanside, I made a web page for the Las Pintas visit last September: http://community-2.webtv.net/boojum1/pintas
