Driving home from El Rosario, we saw a couple of roads head west towards that huge sand dune north of El Socorro... so we took one (4WD)... it came to
the base of the dune and paralleled it going north...David K - 9-20-2005 at 10:03 AM
I could hear the surf, so I climbed the dune for a look.... WOW!David K - 9-20-2005 at 10:04 AM
I called down to Baja Angel to come see this...David K - 9-20-2005 at 10:05 AM
Which she did... Isn't Baja great? Every dirt road goes some place great!David K - 9-20-2005 at 10:07 AM
While we were there, a couple of passenger cars (locals) drove by on the flat sand beach... otherwise, it was very unpopulated...David K - 9-20-2005 at 10:08 AM
I said this would be a great place for one of those Mexican beer commercials!David K - 9-20-2005 at 10:10 AM
I also said, I bet there are sand dollars here! Baja Angel and I headed for the water...David K - 9-20-2005 at 10:12 AM
Yup! There were tons... and clam shells, tooDavid K - 9-20-2005 at 10:13 AM
Here's looking back at the dune we climbed over, from the water...David K - 9-20-2005 at 10:17 AM
This is looking northward... We eventually worked our way along the dune until it ended, and got onto the beach which we drove to Gypsy's at Cielito
Lindo... It is fun to see the 2WD passenger cars being able to drive on the sand, like at Pismo Beach or Daytona. Pretty rare to have such a firm
beach.David K - 9-20-2005 at 10:21 AM
Here's an arms length self photo on my 48th birthday... in Baja, and loving it! Can't wait to be back in Baja again!
Many thanks to BajaCactus (Antonio) and his family and the Diamante Del Mar crew (Rob and Anthony)... and specially my sweetie, Baja Angel (Elizabeth)
for making my birthday in El Rosario a really great one!
looks like the beach at El Pabellon...
eetdrt88 - 9-20-2005 at 03:35 PM
which is just a ways past cielito lindo...awesome place, pabellon has a great little camp area with hot showers and the guy can hook you up with all
the lobster and crab you'll ever want for a very low price....the beaches there are really beautiful,to bad the waters so friggin coldDavid K - 9-20-2005 at 05:49 PM
Yes, we drove past Pabellon going to Gypsy's... This was much closer to El Socorro... The water is like ice, as you say!jide - 9-20-2005 at 07:13 PM
I remember riding a quad on these dunes, on a chilly day in april 2003, I nearly lost my life that day. I was going full gas(40mph), coming back to el
pabellon, and at the last second, saw the clothe line used for drying, ducked under in less time I could ever imagine a human being could react, and
stopped a few yards later, thankfull to find my head on my shoulders.... man I just can't imagine what I would've looked like if I had hit that line
full speed at neck height....
Another close to death story in Baja, that makes you grateful to come back home alive...
anyways, here's a palapa I found riding around, there was also a cool shack made out of found drift wood and other random beached items..

o my god dave, people driveing on the beach. you should have told them that this is against the law! we never do that on our quads.Baja&Back - 9-21-2005 at 11:11 AM
Whaddya know - I've actually been somewhere in Baja BEFORE David had. That's an accomplishment!
We even had a guest last year driving a 40' motorhome along that beach. Told him I wasnt gonna pull him out-he could go submersable.
If you're staying overnite with an RV, go to Fidel's "Palapas Alvinos" instead of the Ejido's place with yellow buildings & whale skeleton. Fidel
is such a nice guy & tries SO hard to make us touristas happy. Even has fresh water trucked in.
