Time for Another Adventure Q's

Pappy Jon - 9-24-2005 at 06:49 PM

Well, it's time to get out of the house. October is not a good time in Casa Pappy, so I'm going to excape to Baja.

My last adventure was in March and it was the first time I went south of the state line. Right now I have about 10 days, but I might be able to wiggle 2-3 more out of my boss. I would like to explore some more area in Baja Sur, staying north of a line across the peninsula at Bahia Conceptcion.

I was looking at the area around Santa Marta (Baja Almanac map 29). I see there is a route/trail/track north from Santa Marta that goes to the Gulf at La Trinidad/Ensenada la Trinidad. Anybody been there done that?

I also see there is a route from Las Virgenes (on the hwy NW of Santa Rosalia) northward to the Gulf at Punta Baja/Boca San Carlos (Almanac map 29 & 32). Any info on that area?

Other suggestions? Maybe something on the Pacific side?

I will be traveling in a self-contained 4x4. I like casting from shore (since I seldom actually catch anything), primitive getting-the-heck-away-from-it-all camping, botanizing, birding, and photography (geez, sounds like personal ad). I want to see the natural side, the wide side of Baja.

Thanks.

Lot's of discussion on this area by The squarecircle, Corky1, and others. Type in Los Corrales into the search engine here... That is the 'end of the road' south of los Barriles... The squarecircle has driven to the state border I believe (south of Los Corrales). The next attempt may be in October!

Kacey Smith (Baja GPS Guide) has a route that goes all the way to San Ignacio from there (via Trinidad, Santa Marta)... But was reported impassable after last winter... for m/c only. Uses some of the El Camino Real, too!
