Carnaval in Baja Sur

Okay one more question. I was reading guidebook that said Carnaval is big festival in Santa Rosalia. I counted on my fingers and realized we will be near there on Fat Tuesday next year because Easter is so late. Anyone know if the festivities there or in the area are worth stopping for???

My experience with Carnaval are noteworthy celebrations along the peninsula in both Ensenada and La Paz.

I hope there'll be more details here from those more familiar with what is going on in Santa Rosalia at that time.

I have lived near Santa Rosalia for over 9 years and do not recall anything special about Carnaval happening here.
There is still plenty to see in this, the first Sea of Cortez city to encounter on Mex 1.
Old time mining operation for copper, great bakery in town, museum on the hill, just nice town. Good, well staffed hospital on the hill if the need arises.
You will hear horror stories about PEMEX here, but just watch the meter as it starts. You will be ok.

Carnaval in LaPaz is an excellent festival, I make it a point to be in the LaPaz area for the week. Last year with the elections and 5th February holiday (no alcohol) Carnaval was shifted to late Feb. ending on a Sunday night.

Carnival in La Paz is an outstanding party for the whole family - lots of fun and very safe. Everyone should be there for it at least once. I'm going to post some photos in the gallery to give you an idea of it.
