The Best

The best french fries in Baja are at Angles Cafe, across from the Banamex in Santa Rosalia. World class.....

rpleger - 10-4-2005 at 11:39 AM

The best Cobb Salad is at the Compestre(sec) Rest. in La Paz.

More on Campestri, I have been going there at least 10 years and the Cobb salad is the sames as it was 10 years ago, I think they have the same cook(chef) I know the waiters are the same, this has got to be exceptional for keeping help.

Tucker - 10-4-2005 at 01:12 PM

Gentlemen I diagree! Grill Campestre has decent food compared to a Dennys (with a bar). The people are nice. The air-conditioners sound like a freight train running through the building. Zilch atmosphere. I eat there sometimes, but only if I'm really hungry. Don't go on Sunday it's very popular with the Mexicans for family dining. Closed Mondays.

I don't think you are making a fair comparison, I think your camparison should with the other restaurants of La Paz or Baja.

Tucker - 10-4-2005 at 01:33 PM

My point exactly, It doesn't compare. I think the reason it's popular with Mexican families is that it is gringo (european) food. I much prefer the authentic Mexican dishes, especially seafoods.

Good point Tuck......there was once this ol' lady who didn't like the air let alone anything else. Then there was the person who likes anything and everything. Consider the source although generally speaking most get it(their review)most often in the ballpark. I still think some of the best Mexican food is found in Wilminton, Ca.

That's a fact Sharks

I've had the most incredible meals in the sleaziest truck stop type places between Hermosa Beach and Long Beach. Real Mexican! Real Atmosphere!

comitan - 10-4-2005 at 02:35 PM

What it really comes down to is taste, either you like the food or not.. What your feeling like when you enter the restaurant, the smells, the atmosphere, not everyones going to agree on any one resaurant. But a good review helps.

Sort of Comi.

jrbaja - 10-4-2005 at 02:51 PM

What I felt like when entering those restaurants on PCH, etc. is I would either be robbed, stabbed, poisoned, blown up, tagged, or who knows what.
Fortunately, my uncle who was an LAPD detective, and my brother, who works for the oil industy are the ones who introduced me to these "dives".
LA is known for it's restaurants but, 8 times out of ten, we will end up at one of the dives where we know we get awesome meals.
Same generally applies in Baja.

La Pinitas in Hermosa, El Tarasco in Manhatten, oh man oh man I almost forgot, sorry. I LOVED THOSE PLACES. Are they anywhere around? You could have a 10 course meal for 10 bucks!

Haven't been up there in years

jrbaja - 10-4-2005 at 03:26 PM

But I think if there weren't the same eateries, mi hermano would have found different employment and moved!
I'll inquire.

El Tarasco

DanO - 10-5-2005 at 11:20 AM

Ahhh yes, the burritos at that place are awesome, and almost violate my first rule of dining: Never eat anything bigger than your head.

As far as south of the border goes:

Tortas: El Trailero, just south of on the north end of Ensenada.

Carnitas and roast chicken: Dos Hermanos, on the highway at the Estero Beach turnoff. Great tortilleria and groceries next door as well. Herb posted a picture of it awhile ago, but I'm too retarded to cut and paste it here.

Sardina Cantina in San Jose

bajajudy - 10-5-2005 at 04:30 PM

Headed to THE BEST fish sandwich in all of Baja tonight.
Also THE BEST fried onion rings in the world...si senor.

The Maya or Los Tres Cochinitas if you are in the area. That is Wilmington.
