credit cards for gas?

ArvadaGeorge - 10-7-2005 at 05:11 PM

Has any one used a credit or debit card at a pemex station?
How do they figure the exchange rate?
Is it safe?
I have a large group of rv?s going to Campo Nuevo Maztlan 12-20 to 1-3-06 or so
We will be crossing the border at Algodones or the east Mexicali crossings.
Since the fuel prices are better in Baja we all will probably buy 100 gallons each (M/C 's, atv's , ect)
That?s a lot of pesos and there isn?t a easy place to buy them at either crossing
If I remember right there is a newer pemex at the intersection of BCN 6 and BCN 3
That takes credit cards
Just south and west of Algodones.
Has anyone used cards there or at any gas stations?

you get the bank rate for the day.

hurry on down gas is allot cheaper here than in Colorado:light:

it is safe just don't let them take your card out of your site:light:

credit cards at pemex

we use credit card at pemex quite often in ensenada. no problems thus far. 3% service charge added. the amount is in pesos, not dolares, so your credit card company calculates the conversion to dollars. as someone mentioned, it's the official exchange rate that day, generally.

Pemex doesnt take credit cards here(Los Cabos), as far as I know

Diver - 10-8-2005 at 06:30 PM

Most Pemex south of Ensenada do not take credit cards.

I guess La Paz is in never-neverland, no cards here.

in Mulege only the station on the highway takes them

Baja Cactus (El Rosario Pemex) takes them but adds 5%, as that is what the bank charges Antonio. I would guess that would be the same at any Pemex that offers credit card/check card payment option...?

ATM. 3,000 pesos at a time. Use for gas and any establishment that has a 10x1 exchange. Easy and you have extra for more stuff.

I agree with elgatoloco, use the ATM and pay cash for the gas, you get the current rate, no surcharge, no exchange rate (at least with my card).

I'm not cheap, I'm just trying to pay for my new coach:O

A couple take them in San Felipe - haven't doe it myself so don't know surcharges, etc.
