BajaNomad

In support of Doug

thebajarunner - 10-11-2005 at 08:26 AM

Time for true Nomads to stand up and support Doug.
He busts his backside to provide a good forum for the place we all love, then the nibblers and the trashers all work to bring it down.
Recently I discussed this with him and he said, "Nomad is a community, and I am hoping that the community will act as one so that I don't always have to be the bad guy"
Yesterday he had to make a strong post against a long time member.
I support that post.
I don't mind people taking issue with my posts, correcting me, or even strongly disagreeing with me.
What I do object to is name calling (that went out in the third grade in our community), personal attacks (you went to the prinicipal's office for those) and all the other 'stuff' that has gone on.
Actually, it has been pretty good lately, more Baja, less bile.
Let's support Doug and keep it that way.

NOTICE---- I named no names, called out no personalities.

But, it needs to be a kinder, more informative place, or some of us do need to name names and call out the offenders.

Last time it got bad I went away.
That was not fair, the bad guys need to go away, or become good guys.

Now, isn't that a pretty easy choice???
Well, at least it is a start.

Natalie Ann - 10-11-2005 at 08:49 AM

Doug's a prince - always has been, always will be. He has my full support and I believe he knows that.

Marie-Rose - 10-11-2005 at 08:49 AM

Totally agree Bajarunner! This board has provided me with fabulous information
over the last 2 years. I have met some wonderful people and rely on their
experiences and friendship.

Braulio - 10-11-2005 at 08:57 AM

Well-put bajarunner - Doug has my repect though I've never met him.

He does a good job of walking the fine line. I hope he's willing to continue.

Although why he hasn't booted Lera is a mystery to me.

Here's Doug with Baja author Greg Niemann and I at the Pyramid Resort last April...

I totally support Doug, and what the bajarunner has said-------

Barry A. - 10-11-2005 at 09:11 AM

and I agree with both statements (Doug and bajarunner) on this subject. Barry

bajaden - 10-11-2005 at 09:24 AM

I also agree. I always thought that Lera was the bad apple, hiding behind that sweet disposition. Can't fool us....

Why heck darn

jrbaja - 10-11-2005 at 09:50 AM

I even agree with that, excepting of course a "mistake" that was made regarding my identity.
And I am sure that Doug knows how much time I have spent sticking up for him when others have accused him of some things.
Personally, I think he's a pretty fair guy. Otherwise, I wouldn't waste my time here trying to make new friends.

cascabel 6 - 10-11-2005 at 10:01 AM

JR

I will be going to Frailes Nov. 3rd through the 6th. You going to be around? Thought if we are going to yell at each other we might as well meet!

wornout - 10-11-2005 at 10:07 AM

I agree bajarunner. Being a community, I think, when a thread starts getting personal attacks, we users should hit the report key and Doug can decide if the threat that becomes trash talk is moved to the playground (Off-Topic Area) or just deleted. That way he does not have to do all the work.

bajajudy - 10-11-2005 at 10:43 AM

Thank you, Doug!

:!:

much?simas gracias, doug

sylens - 10-11-2005 at 11:04 AM

por todo lo que haces para mantener este message board. don't know which is more impressive, your tech skills or your patience.

amazing.

thank you.

lizard lips - 10-11-2005 at 11:46 AM

I like the guy! Thanks for the time and effort you put into this board.....

losfrailes - 10-11-2005 at 11:54 AM

This is, by far, the best and most informative site about Baja on the web. It is sad that there are some who feel it is their own personal location to take shots or sh!its at others. Especially in a public forum.

I can totally understand why some use the Anon approach in response to some of the posts made, no one like to get the flaming that comes from so very few on this site.

Doug, is doing a great job, maintains his cool in the face of very aggresive and obnoxious behavior that gets spawned here.

Kudos to the man!

Baja Bernie - 10-11-2005 at 12:48 PM

I guess most of you remember when I was a big supporter of JR because he did have a unique approach and valuable information to share on Baja. All that changed a couple of months back when I realized that his B.S. would never stop and that it far outweighed his knowledge of Baja.

I also support Doug for the way he deals with this 'Community.' (I must say I do not have the patience that he does). Ssdly, community pressure has had zilch effect on JR.

When JR's comments and attitude returned to his normal negative self I decided that I would no longer have anything to do with anything he said here.----

Suprise! I found that the off-topic forum was much more civil than most of his posts.

Anyway, apparently he has been warned and warned and warned and yet he still takes cheap shots at many of the members of this community and most specifically at the guy(Mr. Nomad) who allows him to flap his jaws with impunity. I don't see this leopard changing his spots so I will just continue to stay away from his posts. At least when he really gets nasty he restricts that to U-2-U's or emails to vent his spleen on anyone who he figures has crossed him in the slightest manner.

calacowboy - 10-11-2005 at 01:01 PM

I would like to thank Doug and the board for being here, and sharing all their stories on Baja. Where else in the world can you get such personal and up to date information??? No where I know of. Mucho Graicis.

bajaden - 10-11-2005 at 01:22 PM

This is not intended to be a defense of Jr. He's a big boy and can take care of himself. He obviously has some baggage he hauls around that affects how he thinks, but so do the rest of us. We just express it in a different way. I'll close with this. I have been critical of Jr. in the past, but I have always tried to make it constuctive and not name calling, and up to this point, he has never lashed out at me. Do I condone all of his behavior? Not up to me folks. But he does intertain me and make me laugh sometimes.

Ya just gatta know when your chain is being pulled.

Chains can be pulled with humor------

Barry A. - 10-11-2005 at 01:27 PM

What JR does is NOT funny, despite his bouncing happy faces, IMHO.

its kinda like...

eetdrt88 - 10-11-2005 at 01:30 PM

we're all a bunch of overgrown kids that all like the same playground and Doug provides a forum for us all to come and talk it over....or something like that, anyways with regards to jr...his agressive and sometimes offensive style doesnt bug me till he wears it out on one person (i.e.David K)...i think if he enjoys F'ing with people on here and Doug doesnt care, well more power to him...its not exactly my approach to making new friends, but hey everybodys gotta do it their way,right:smug::smug:

Cincodemayo - 10-11-2005 at 01:31 PM

I agree with bajaden...after being viciously attacked like a Rotweiller on raw meat by jr....just kidding...I attribute his negativity to running head on into structure fires without his BA, ya know the old smoke eater syndrome, and having acquired way too many smoke inhallation episodes. But nevertheless he is quite entertaining to say the least. Just check out the number of visits to his posts! I actually look forward to a cold cerveza with the old baja rat and seeing firsthand whether his bark is worse than his byte.....woof woof. Bamboo all the way hose:coolup:

Baja Bernie - 10-11-2005 at 01:38 PM

Should you ever meet JR you will find him a very low keyed guy who never says a cross word. A real joy to be around in person.

Cincodemayo - 10-11-2005 at 01:50 PM

Bajabernie...Isn't that interesting what kind of personna changes a keyboard can inspire!

No matter what any of you think about me

jrbaja - 10-11-2005 at 01:59 PM

or what I think of any of you, the most offensive thing I have seen on this board is a tribute to Doug receiving so many comments about me.
This post wasn't about me, it was/is about Doug. Get it psychological geniuses?

Doug could have evicted me if he wanted to and has with others. No wonder I have so little respect for the spineless gossips on here. They can't even stay focused, let alone comprehend!

And no, that doesn't apply to everyone.

Barry A. - 10-11-2005 at 02:06 PM

"the most offensive thing I have seen on this board is a tribute to Doug receiving so many comments about me."

SAY WHAT???????????

7 posts

jrbaja - 10-11-2005 at 02:11 PM

related to me, rather than Doug. That's what. A tribute to Doug is hardly the place to discuss me!

JR-----------

Barry A. - 10-11-2005 at 02:18 PM

Yu gotta be kidding :o:o:o It's ALL about you!!!!!! but you just don't get the message, for some unfathomable reason.

It is beyond my comprehension----you got that right.

Make that 9

jrbaja - 10-11-2005 at 02:25 PM

But wrong again Barry, when I was gone, it seems as if there were the same problems there have always been on here. Except I wasn't involved.
And Doug had to deal with them.

Again I will say, felicidades Doug.

Now, can we get back to Doug, or start another thread titled J.R. if it floats yer boat or have a poll or something. But not on this thread! DUH!!

cascabel 6 - 10-11-2005 at 02:29 PM

JR

Take a look at my post if you have a minute. You going to be around? I'd like to take a look at the bamboo.

I can honestly say-----

Barry A. - 10-11-2005 at 02:30 PM

that is not my impression. For the short time you were gone things seemed to be going along pretty smoothly, and now--------well, you sure got to me (mostly in your attacks on David K., who I don't even know, but respect mucho), and now I am part of the problem, too, I see.

I am backing away, which is good---.

Viva Baja.

Better late than never

DanO - 10-11-2005 at 03:11 PM

Gracias, Doug, for providing this forum. It ain't perfect, but what is? Its imperfections are its personality, and make it interesting and memorable.

Diver - 10-11-2005 at 03:18 PM

My gratitude as well, Doug !
Great board, great moderation, great guy !

I'd also bet, by the way you parent this community, that you are a great father to your kids. That's my biggest compliment !!

comitan - 10-11-2005 at 04:17 PM

Well I go fishing for one day come back, and 2 pages of thank you's for Doug, all I can add is another thank you for a well run forum. And hope our community can get along and help each other out with Baja Travel, and shareing experiences.

Amazing that

Baja Bernie - 10-11-2005 at 04:44 PM

jrbaja - 10-11-2005 at 05:07 PM

Get a grip! Can you still understand anything you read? I have been reading your babble in off topic and I am truly starting to wonder.
It's not about me. But you it seems were the first to bring me into it.

Like I said, if you want to condemn me , like I give a chit, shouldn't it be in another thread besides one honoring Doug?

Just my senile opinion!

Signed, Rhode Island Red, just to throw you off!

Hey, alright every once and while another opportunity to Thank Doug comes along. I am always up for that. Thanks Doug, you run a great board.

bajaden - 10-11-2005 at 06:46 PM

Personally I'm a white rock guy Jr. I used to spend my summers when I was a kid at my uncle Charlie's. My job was to go and collect eggs in the morning. Easy job and fun if not for one big white rock rooster. I had to defend myself with a broom. Hey, he was only defending his turf..

By the way Jr. He who protests too much. I know you really love us. Remember the saying, " If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, is there a sound ". We hear you Jr.

Your faux compliments for anyone on this board are just that - transparent, feeble efforts to create a baseless pulpit for your rants.

I have complimented Doug on a number of occasions and he does a job that allows you access, disproportionately to your contributions, irrespective of your count. I recall a school teacher mentioning to the class one time - "empty vessels make the most noise"

Again, you are delusional if you consider that you are making friends on the board.

Dilusional Gull

jrbaja - 10-13-2005 at 10:59 AM

Would be someone who took this seriously.
"Otherwise, I wouldn't waste my time here trying to make new friends. "

Or thinking that everyone here feels the same as me (or you).

And not that it matters, but you might be surprised at the friends I have made on here. Whether we agree on politics and other BS or not, I consider them wonderful people, and they know it.

Debra - 10-14-2005 at 07:40 PM

Flame me if you will.........(I'm a big girl)

Seems to me (my opinion) that several good posters have just "shut up" I don't profess to ge a "good poster" but, I did read this forum several times per day, and chimed in on occasion, Maybe more than I should have, that whole "numbers game" told me I was talking too much.

Many interesting posters have quit posting, sad, I miss them......I have chosen to only open posts from people that I know have something to say that isn't negitive, then someone else chimes in and the fight is on!

It's really weary and redundent.....

I haven't noticed any

jrbaja - 10-14-2005 at 11:11 PM

interesting posts missing. Is there some secret part of Nomads I am not aware of?

Debra - 10-16-2005 at 05:21 PM

JR, yes we have a special club that we just share alone, no meaines allowed

Good Gosh! Aren't there some folks that YOU miss hearing from? Or is your personal power just to good for the rest of us to fathom?

All the people I miss hearing from on here

jrbaja - 10-16-2005 at 05:37 PM

are too busy either with their lives (in Baja) or doing other things that are more important than listening to hot air from a few tourists like DK.
But, we are in touch regularly. Any in particular you would like me to say Hi too?

Debra

Baja Bernie - 10-16-2005 at 05:42 PM

You post and then you go missing and I have always wondered why. This last post about people going missing is so true but the guy you addressed it to would never notice because the only ones of importance to him are his own.

Perhaps, if we installed a full length mirror for him he would not have so much time for his inane posts--about tourists and Chiclen coopers (some of the better ones that have gone missing).

Thanks for your reality checks.

David K - 10-16-2005 at 06:48 PM

So few have the time to put up with JR's ego or pointless insults to Americans and Canadians who read Nomad... he also insults the 'noble gringos' who live in Baja, like him...

This endless rant that I am only an 'occaisional tourist who rarely visits Baja and then just to gringo enclaves' shows how far removed from reality this poor man is.

He used to be interesting and pleasant to visit with... Did something in his enviroment change?

i know

mulege marv - 10-16-2005 at 06:56 PM

i know what you are talking about but SOMEONE didnt get , or maybe i didnt get it. either way i have stopped due to the negitives, yes they are back. not that my post are all that good but at least they are positive. and i have cute pics ! i thought some had gone away but they havent (no names) BUT THE SAME OLE' NEGATIVE STUFF HAS RISEN TO THE TOP AGAIN !

There is no need to call names, and particularly to dis the guy who provides this forum.

mcgyver - 11-6-2005 at 04:36 PM

Hey! I too agree that Doug is a saint to put up with some of you! I recently came back on this board after talking to several members off the board and being asked to post again after I got discussted with the total lies that where being posted as answer by some of the self styled Baja experts, some of whom only visit once a year and don't realize that things in Baja are not cut and dryed under every circumstance. I also think its unfair to have to leave because some of them upset you so much with there remarks. I am going to just totaly ignore their posts and continue to post when I think I can contribute and yes I know I can not SPELL but if thats all some of you have to do is worry about it, get a life, come to Baja, let me take you to places that even David K Has not seen!!(Lost Mine, Petrified Turtle,Pink Penis, spot where whirlwind blows continously, place where air is gushing out of the ground etc etc) Just remember I am in Baja Now full time!!
So if there is anything I can do for any of you I am always available (when I am not in the back country) . I now as of yesterday I have Direcway satellite internet. Its great! So if you are headed south on Mexico 5 ( the freeway) WE are at KM 54 south of San Felipe, Campo Playa Cristina, 3 miles off highy 5 on the beach, white cabin in middle of camp, has sign "Max & Polly, stop and camp, get your e-mail, have a cold something, get your flats fixed or what ever, for contacts we can usually relay messages down to Gonzaga it they are simple or send written notes as far as Coco's who has a new big 5day cold ice chest that he was needing.
Anyone wanting to explore Matomi Wash and area can check in with me if they would like to have someone knowing where they got stuck at! when they don't come back!
Anyway I hope this board keeps going and does not explode as the previous home of a lot of us did, I am not going to fight with anyone, I don't have time, I am headed for Las Animas thursday after picking up a sister and brother-in-law who are total newbies to Baja, on second thought there may be a hell of a fight Friday nite.!!

Welcome back mcgyver, I for one have missed your posts. Be glad to be seeing them again.

All the best to Doug, you da man!

vgabndo - 11-6-2005 at 07:11 PM

I don't know him either, but I know that when I can't visit this board I miss it more than I would have expected. Even when I don't have a question, I am comforted by the fact that I can get an answer to a Baja specific question in a fairly short time, and generally put my trust in it. What a tremendous resource.

There are some folks who can really twist my tail with their anti-social behavior, but they are the same people that most of the other civil people who visit here are put off by. I only get to spend 30 to 45 days a year in Mexico, so I wish I had more to contribute to this board.

Even this thread would have been better if it hadn't been turned ugly by someone who mostly just wants to pizz people off.

All my best to Doug and the rest of the good folks.

I am also happy to see some posts from some of the Nomads who had gone missing. Being relatively new to Baja, they were very patient and kind when we embarked on our first drive to Baja. They gave my husb and I fabulous info. We were blown away when one Nomad in particular arranged for us to use her motorhome!!! I continue to get answers to my questions and count on this board for the REAL stuff!!! Thanks Doug...

Dave, they are all real places and you have probably been to one of them and did not even know it, they are fairly close to each other and you have to go to one to get to the other. I will try this picture thing again.
David K. for sure knows where the PP is so shut up. David, you are disqualified, it may be that you told me where it was the first time

Braulio, it is not nice to keep on hassling doddering little old ladies wearing purple tennies who have never done you any harm but are seriously considering how this might be accomplished.

And yes, I too support Doug. We'd all have to be pretty damn stupid not to.

Good folks like Doug are everywhere. You just have to have an open mind to see them. Doug excells on this board because he has a mission in life to provide us with a tool. This tool is the Baja Nomad. Thank you Doug. I hope that there will be many more years of 'devotion' to our 'cause'.
Long Live Baja!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Doug, for what sometimes must feel like a thankless task. When things get cool and rainy down there come up here where it is still 60's and dry :)
