Raw format as opposed to jpeg.
Most digital camera's will record photos either way.
We saved raw to a disk and when we had a local photo shop print them, they adjusted for light/dark, flesh tones, sky blue colors etc. Many more
options for editing in raw. In raw, a good photo editor can do much more with a raw format leading to better quality prints.

Jeez I hadnt looked at this post recently. You guys have a vivid imagination!. Somedays I wish I looked like the YOUNG lady in the photo who was
watching her friend(male) fish. He was very busy making sure all his lines were perfect but never saw him catch anything...except her!
As for the RAW part, Diver is correct. It is just a format for taking photos but the files are huge and it seems that when I reduce them to fit on
this forum, they lose some of the details.
