We are getting ready to tile our house in baja and will be heading to tecate to look at some. I was wondering if anyone can give me some places in
tecate to look and directions to them. I am not interested in places along the coast as our house in on the rio hardy
Thanks Mick

Mick;
I found a tile factory in Tecate 10 years ago when I was building my first house. The place looks like it has been their forever-has lots of character
and is worth the visit even if your not looking for tile ! At the time they would get the clay/adobe from the arroyo next to the factory and you
could watch the complete process including the ladies hand painting the tiles. I placed an order for lots of tile , different sizes and designs etc.
They called me in the states when it was ready, the price was as quoted and the quality was good. I haven't been back since but as I remember when you
come into town you take a right on the main hwy and go maybe a mile or two and it is on the right side. You will look for an old warehouse type
building with tin roof on a large commercial lot that has pallets of roofing and other paver tiles stacked around. Good luck.

Where is the Rio Hardy.

The rio hardy river is at the 50 Km marker on Highway 5 about 45 min south of mexicali
on your way to sf. Our place is on the river above the dam. there are about eight campos alng the river.

If you're talking about ceramic tile (versus the saltillo variety), I would think Mexicali would have a better selection than Tecate. I'd first see
what Mexicali had in any event - bigger city.

I've been to every tile store in Mexicali. They do have a big selection but their prices are the same as the states or in some cases more. I thought
that if there was a factory in tecate it might be cheeper. If we don't find any we will be buying it in mexicali. If anyone needs to know where to go
there I think I know most of them and which ones are the best.
