I'm sure this topic has been covered before, but I am relatively new here. How does one arrange for dependable, periodic delivery of mail and/or
Courier service parcels to remote parts of Baja such as Los Barriles? I know that there is an informal network of travelers coming and going, but

Mexican mail is slow, but usually reliable. Delivery time from a week to a month. Send no valuables. Be patient. Addtional US postage is required.bajajudy - 10-18-2005 at 09:24 AM
We receive a good portion of our mail at our apartado...Mexican PO box. We have received catalogues,cd's, gifts, books as samples, invoices and
letters.
We have mailed two books from here(San Jose) and one made it fine the other was damaged....hard to tell who to blame for the damage. Each took about
a week to get to the stateside address.
There is a Mail Boxes, etc in San Jose but they are expensive.
Generally, we send envelopes already stamped with people going back and have no problem with that. Just be sure to bring plenty of stamps with you as
if you have to ask someone to buy stamps i e go to the post office for you...you are less likely to find someone to take your mail.

Although this doesn't relate to shipping in Baja, it was a revelation to me regarding shipping to a foreign country.
A few months ago, my wife's son moved to the Philippines to go into business. In early September, we shipped them a small package weighing less than
16 oz. via USPS First class. The postage was $6.80. It took just over four weeks to arrive. His wife is expecting a legal document she needs that
is to be delivered to our house. She made a point of writing to say that she would need it sent Fed Ex because the Philippine postal service was so
corrupt that they would often steal anything of value. At that time, we already had another package ready to ship containing miscellaneous items. I
figured that UPS might be a safer and affordable mode of delivery, but I was WRONG. I checked it out online and a small box weighing three pounds was
$205.00. I took it down to the post office. Cost $22.35.

Have used both DHL and Fedex to get stuff (documents) from Colorado to La Paz and Cabo. average price is about $22. US and takes about 4 days.
Reliability seems good.

The U.S.P.S. provides an international service through an alliance with Fed Ex called "Global Express Guaranteed". The cost for said service to
Mexico is $25.00 for 0.5 pounds/$34.00 for 1.0 pounds. The item I'm mailing tomorrow to the Philippines via that service is $32.00 (0.5 lbs). It

Those partner services are more expensive...
Just use the regular global priorty...it will arrive in Baja in about 4-5 days.
Use the USPS it's way cheaper and you get excellent service.
The US Postal Service is not here to make money...just to provide other companies a way to make money.
Mail is flown on FedEx and UPS so thoes companies won't go broke.

for five years have used cp (codigo postal) that's on all the street signs in my neighborhood in ensenada. found out the other day it is incorrect.
nobody really seems to know or care. mail has been delivered (or not)

"Conocido" is the best address in smaller towns. I guess that's equivalent to "General Delivery" in the states. If they can't find you they hold it
at the post office or, as in the case of El Centenario, the sheriff's office. Mine is delivered to my house even though I have no street address
other than the name of of the cross-streets. Works for me!

The mail problem has to do with the "Receiving" country's postal system, which is erratic in Mexico and totally corrupt in the Philippines. You're in
great hands with the USPS, not so with the others. I'll still gamble with First Class mail on things which are not of great value or can be replaced,
