Cigarette Prices ??

MrBillM - 10-26-2005 at 04:16 PM

Any smokers out there know if the prices on Cigarettes have gone up dramatically in Baja ?

Because the Trabajadores in camp are periodically asking me for Cigarettes, I normally keep a carton of Marlboros on hand. I finally ran down to my last pack so I stopped in San Felipe this a.m. The Deposito I usually buy them at was out so I stopped at a Licores y More. 230 pesos for a carton. Earlier in the Summer I paid 165 pesos and last year 120 pesos. I may have simply gotten ripped. Anyone know ?

No Sympathy

MrBillM - 10-27-2005 at 10:36 AM

I don't waste sympathy or any other emotion on others and their personal lifestyle choices. If that's what they want to do with their lives, it's OK by me as long as it doesn't affect me adversely.
We all have the free will to make choices, good and bad.

More than once I've had conversations regarding the lifestyle decisions of others and I explain my attitude this way:

If I were to see someone about to jump off of an overpass to their death and that particular day I was feeling REALLY compassionate and involved, I MIGHT go up and ask the person if that was REALLY what they wanted to do. If the answer was YES, I'd say go for it, have a nice flight.

Hey guys...make that three.

I want to say I agree, but in the heat of the moment I would most likely "try" to stop them. I know that in an emergency I only react like everyone else, and then think about it later.

If someone had just told you that your children had been killed in a car wreck, but it was a mistake and they were fine, and it was you standing on the bridge, would you want me to tell you or just wish you a nice flight?

Final Flight

MrBillM - 10-29-2005 at 01:24 PM

You can come up with all sorts of unlikely scenarios to justify intruding upon the life and death personal decisions of others, but it's not worth the effort in my opinion. In your current weepy scenario, it would seem that it's a person you would have some knowledge of rather than a stranger so I guess you MIGHT want to contribute the information to the fly and die decision. Depending on my opinion of that person and their worth, I might say something or just enjoy the show.

I don't comprehend ANY reason for suicide other than severe physical disability or terminal illness. If a person decides on that course for any other reason, it is evidence of a weak, damaged or diseased mental state. Therefore, I have absolutely NO reason to interfere with his or her decision. That person and society are better off for the loss.

perhaps you mr bill could be under the bridge looking up??:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce: anyway few bridgs in baja would qualify have a good one jerry

MH_Stevens - 10-30-2005 at 10:28 AM

I agree that today there is too much meddling in others business by individuals, churches and government, but my overriding guidance is that I try to treat every other human being the same way I would want them to treat me, and it is a fact that in the majority of unsuccessful suicides, when the subject again becomes emotionally well, they are happy to be alive.

And the successful are simply estatic that their dead.

backninedan - 10-30-2005 at 11:50 AM

Screwing up your own suicide has to be something of a low point in your day.

comitan - 10-30-2005 at 12:20 PM

I guess you could say smoking is an enjoyable slow method of suicide.

Tomas Tierra - 10-30-2005 at 04:29 PM

Deepends on what your smoking

MH_Stevens - 10-30-2005 at 07:13 PM

And if you want to give a victim of suicide some credit I suppose it is the most sincere form of self-criticism.
