Ask for a lemon in Baja, get a lime. Does anyone know about growing your own lemons in Baja? Are the trees locally available or do you have to bring
them? Is importing trees legal?
So many questions just to get a lemon.....

They are available at the nuseries in San Felipe. Probably would frown at you bringing one down - of course unless it's just a seed.

I have bought what was billed as a lemon tree twice and both times gotten those things that look like lemons but taste like lemons with soupy water in
them....YUCK.
So I am thankful for the key lime tree that was on our property and had given up on lemons until my motherinlaw brought me some seeds from a Meyer
lemon....will let you know if I ever get them to grow. As of today they have not come up.
Maybe Home Depot will have something! The little herb pots I bought have already come up.....FYI the picture shows just watering the little pots.
Upon closer inspection, I discovered that you have to open up the seed packets hidden in the soil. I also added some more soil. BUT my thyme already
has little green leaves poking through the soil.Marinero - 11-3-2005 at 05:34 PM

Y'know Pomp, sometimes you get tired of the same old olive in the Martini and REAL lemon peel is what you need.
Rightousness is on your side
Illegal

Yes, importation is illegal, but worst case scenario is that the plant is simply confiscated. Best case, they don't even know you've got it. I've
brought down numerous trees and plants in the past, but that was in the days when Mordida solved all problems. The last time I brought down a couple
of Desert Bird of Paradise, I was told that I should not do it again, but was allowed to keep the plants. They Died.
A few years back, when being questioned at secondary, the agent asked what I had in a couple of big, black trash bags. I replied "Flores y Plantas".
They got all excited and started pulling the bags out when I said Artificial. The one guard looked inside and laughed. No Problema.dono - 11-4-2005 at 08:26 AM
Bill we live north of los barriles, we have a half acre garden lot, it grows lots of lemons of every type some 10" in diameter. form time to time we
get new shoots coming out of ground, i don't know if you can replant them but your welcome to try and all the lemons you want. Ask Mary at Baja
Properties where we live.----------------DonDavid K - 11-4-2005 at 09:11 AM
You will need a graft to duplicate the fruit tree to produce the same quality fruit... You can graft more than one variety of citrus onto one tree!
You can find lots of gardening/tree growing web sites to tell you how to graft fruit trees, I bet.
Lemons

Sounds like limon real. They are big and lumpy and juicy and very bland. If you buy a tree at a local nursery make sure it is not the real. Both kinds
of lemons do very well here in Loreto, as do limes, oranges, and grapefruit.bajaden - 11-4-2005 at 10:01 AM
Got a lemon tree in my orchard. Didn't plant it so I don't know where it came from. I've been told that there is a nursery in Santa Rosalia that has
lemon tree's. Haven't checked it out myself though.
Now I see
