The name is "Chelo's", not Chelas. Here are the GPS coordinates:
N30?41.373' W114?42.519'
The neat thing is it is in the middle of the San Felipe and Puertecitos new/"paved" road. The food was superb, including the sashimi and breaded fish.
I just told Miss Chelo she was highly recommended over the internet (Mexicoadventrue egroup) and she opened the restaurant just for us (she may keep
funny hours). I added she should cook whatever she recommended. She also sold us gas by the 5-gallon container, luckily we had enough bikes. The best
part is that behind her restaurant and little town starts a winding desert road off its garbage dump that is fun to ride and put us on the old
Puertecitos road. Once on the old Puertecitos road, you will be near a couple of roads that cut to the middle of Matomi, or near Valle Chico at the
end of Chanate Wash, but you must know what you are doing because there are also some false leads and dead ends.
I had ridden past there in the morning years earlier and it was packed with gringos. Was not quite sure were they had all come from.

PS in making future food recommentdations, can we please place the location in the subject area? I have seen posts that say the name of the
restaurant, but do not even mention in which of the 32 Mexican states it is in. Like in real estate, it is all about location, location, location.David K - 11-5-2005 at 09:51 AM
YES!! Great place to eat... Baja Angel and I had dinner there after watching the San Felipe 250 race, last February... While eating (fish, carne
asada), a racer came in (while still in competition) ordered some food 'to go'... and returned to the race course to continue!
This is at KM. 35, if you don't have GPS (past Nuevo Mazatlan and La Roca's driveways... about at El Vergel's driveway).
Here is Valle Chico as seen from the Canada el Parral road ('Azufre Wash') that crosses over the coastal sierra from Chelo's/Sulfur Mine area/ old
Puertecitos road...
