Restaurante Laja - Francisco Zarco (wine country)

This is a high-end, pricey restaurant worth every cent you pay. I think they are open Wed - Sun starting at about 1:30 or 2:00. This was described in a travel magazine as Baja's answer to Napa's French Laundry. My review -- a must for any foodie! It's a fixed price menu. You can choose the 4 course meal or the 8 course meal, which is a tasting menu. We opted for the 8 courses! The menu changes often, if not daily, and they use primarily local and organic ingredients. The menu on Nov 5 when we went was as follows:
Organic Carrot and Nardello Pepper Bisque
Organic Lettuces with Cherry Tomatoes
Marinated Yellowtail with Preserved Lemon and Avocado
Butternut Squash Risotto with Crispy Pork
Pan Roasted Ling Cod with Cherry Tomatoes, Roasted Eggplant, zucchini and roasted pepper
Oven Roasted Sonora Beef
Orange and Lemon Verbena Sorbet in a Cold Melon Soup
Creme Brulee with Strawberry Salad

Each dish was delicious and beautiful! The service, outstanding. The prices -- bring your Visa card because they don't take American Express. The 4 course meal is $385 pesos, the 8 course is $565 pesos. They have an outstanding wine list, of course, featuring wines of the Baja Wine country, including at least one made by the maitre'd, Andres. It was a combination of nebiolo and barbera, served chilled. Lovely and refreshing. They will also put together a wine flight for you.

The restaurant is named for its owners/chef, Laura (the chef's wife) and the chef, Jair, thus LAJA.

It's a beautiful setting among the grapevines, overlooking the valley. We highly recommend this for a gastronomic dining experience, you won't be disappointed! Here is the website:

The restaurant is located just off Hwy 3 and is well marked with road signs (now, that's a surprise!), about one mile west of the Francisco Zarco village turnoff.

Are those prices.....

....per person or can two share the dishes for that price?

I have heard great things about this restaurant.

no split plates orders - on the 8 couse the servings are tiny, not enough to split! It's worth every cent. When we were there, we noticed that for those parties ordering the 4 course, they each chose opposites. For each course offering you have a choice of 2 different items, so if there are 2 of you, you can taste everything.
