This was taken at Summer Solstice 2 years ago. You can see the the shadow of the ball is perfectly round as the sun was directly overhead. It was

Yup, true NOON is when there is no shadow on the tropic of cancer, that day... If you are on daylight savings, 1 pm should have been ok... ? Maybe the

Well 1pm on the equanox is probably PDT and would be 12noon on PST.
It apears to me that there is a white circle on the ground and the shadow is within that circle all the way around (that I can see) Also where you
are in a time zone (east-west) can have a hour's difference in the sun's location.
I believe that the stake in the foreground will show no shadow when the sun is directly overhead.
But it's a great shot Judy - keep them coming.

If you have ever been in a modern city with many skyscrapers at the equatorial solstice you will have seen that every building is in its own shadow.
All the sides of all the the buildings are dark while the sky is extremely bright. I've seen this (in Nairobi) and it looks very weird.
