Good News Sonora Only visa

okiegumbo - 11-8-2005 at 05:16 PM

I traveled to San Carlos on the mainland last week, Nov.1, 2005. Stopped at K21 for Sonora Only visa for myself and three friends. Official in charge said that only the driver needed to have a visa! This is great news and it will speed up the process. More good news: Tucson paper said that the car permit will no longer be necessary for travel in Sonora starting Dec. 1st. I sure hope this is true. Travel beyond Sonora requirements same as usual.

I have just got to ask.
Are you from Oklahoma or Louisiana....or both

Sonora Only is a car permit, not a visa. Only one per car required. Are you suggesting that the other three people with you were told they didn't need tourist visas.

The Arizona Star is a lot more optimisic compared to articles from the MX paper in Hermosillo. The same article also made this mis-statement about Baja:

"The vehicle free-zone status puts Sonora a little bit ahead of the tourism leader to the west, Baja California, said Alma Gamez of Baja California Tours, a Tijuana-based wholesaler that represents hotels in Baja California to tourists in the United States. Drivers to Baja California still need a vehicle permit if they're driving more than 75 miles into the state, Gamez said. "

I ain't saying.

Official at K21 Tourist office said that the three other passengers in the car did not need visas for a trip of less than 7 days or less to San Carlos, Sonora. Car permit is still needed.

There is still lots of confusion as to when the car permit requirement will be discontinued for Sonora. Believe it when you see it.
