I just got the map yesterday from AAA and it says copyright 2001......is that the most current or did I get old stock?

I'm pretty sure that the 2001 map is the very latest one available from AAA.

Don't know about that and they are good maps but, there are much better ones available through www,baja-almanac. com and there are also really good
ones from esparza editores and http://www.geocities.com/quimeramaps.
I use them all. The black lines are my trips and I have pictures and stories at http://grops.msn.com/TheBajasBestGuidesPhotoAlbum. There are also many others with a lot of useful info. and fun stuff on these boards.

Thanks you guys. I just wanted to call AAA if I didn't get the newest. I try to keep one of every year for my collection. I do also have the other
almanacs and maps, plus topos, and the big maps Capt. Mike sells. They are all useful and interesting.
Getting ready to go soon. I'm so excited.

Yes, 2001 is the most recent AAA map. They are working on the next one, as I email with one of the cartographers for AAA. What happened was after
9/11/01 the usual demand for Baja maps dropped! So, they had so much in stock, no need to work on a newer edition.
Take a close look at 2001 vs. earlier editions. The 2001 has been redrawn to better scale thanks to GPS mapping, which they used last time. The roads
south of El Arco is where you can see how far off the older versions were.
The finest hand drawn Baja road maps were those by Howard Gulick, of the Lower California Guidebook 1956-1970 editions/printings. Those maps were what
Mike McMahan originally used for his first Baja wall maps. I have those maps in PDF format for viewing and copying, linked on my web site's front
page. I like to print them out and update them by adding the newer roads, drawn over.
