Wahooooooooooooooooooooooo

bajajudy - 11-12-2005 at 09:30 PM

I am fishing in the Wahoo tournie in La Playita tomorrow.
Only two caught today.
The really good news for me was that there will be no bill fish in the tournie. Wahoo is the fish place fish. and second and third. If no wahoo; dorado come in behind all wahoo.
Too many of the tournies turn into a "lets see who can kill the biggest fish" without regard to anything else.
I was very happy to know that I would not come in tomorrow to see a blood bath of marlin, sailfish etc.
So I will report monday on the results....lets face it tomorrow, I will not be on the computer......I will be on the water.
Yahoo.............................for wahooooooooooooooooooo
We are eating what we always do....fish caught from the same body of water we are fishing in(terror). In this case, tuna. Salad on a bola with chiles y ruffles. pronounce roo fleys
I am stoked.
better hit the sack.

From a coffee cup I found going through my dad's stuff:

wa-hoo:
(wa-hoo'), n. 1. saltwater game fish in the mackerel family. 2. remark made by deep-sea anglers who inadvertently sit on a treble-hooked saltwater fishing lure.

And a lot of wind. It was one rough day out on the water. I understand that many people spent the day rather seasick. Fortunately I dont have that problem.
We got a nibble early in the morning after a shotgun start. Then we hooked a beautiful bull dorado...probably around 40lbs. We got him to the boat and had one gaff in him when the rapala broke. Can you believe that? Snapped right where the clear plastic met the purple. And away he swam.
Good party afterward with tamales and beer. Some live music.
All in all a good day that certainly could have been better but how can you complain when you spend the day on the water in the chase.

The Meeting

To agree on the rules

The start

And the end of anything that vaguely resembled calm water

Do you think he survived the wound?

bajajudy - 11-17-2005 at 03:25 PM

Skipjack
I hope that he did. He was beautiful. One of the prettiest I have ever seen. Arent they something in the water. Almost makes you want to catch and release...........then you remember how wonderful they taste and you get over it.

I didnt mention that the way I knew it was really rough was that, at one point, the captain let out a yeoooweee and ran to my side of the panga as we went up the front side of a 15footer and fell off the back only to have another upon us. It was quite a ride. Didnt make the fishing any better either. When you cant keep the lure in the water while you are trolling(sorry Pam), you know that the fish arent going to even see it to get interested in it.

Sorry judy whoever schedualed the tounament was one day off Saturday was a big day for wahoo, My friend that was fishing caught a 42 # wahoo and there was a 72# caught on sat. theres always another day in fishing.

Ouch!

Skipjack Joe - 11-17-2005 at 04:46 PM

That's the story of every fisher's life:

You shoulda been here yesterday!.

Most of the time you hear it, but sometimes you get to say it.

The great thing about baja fishing is that even if you hear it you've probably still had a pretty good day yourself anyway. Sometimes the drama of being in a rough sea is just a good as having a 'successful' day.

comitan - 11-17-2005 at 05:13 PM

The group my friend was in had a pool $30.00 ea. the fellow with the 72# didn't get in the pool, now that sucks, but my friend thought he won then.
