What did they charge you per night?

David K - 11-15-2005 at 09:46 PM

It is a nice place and it's the forest of salt pine trees that Nuevo Mazatlan founder Luis Castellanos Moreno planted over 30 years ago that makes it special. More N.M. photos at http://vivabaja.com/nm

15$ a night...

and Davids right, those pine trees really make the place special, the locals that live in the homes nearby are pretty friendly too

What is the road like

down to the entrance to Nuevo Mazatlan? Ihavent driven down that way in MANY YEARS but it was after the 1st pavement attempt went to hell. Many bad stretches of potholes.

I read that there is another attempt at paving down to Puertecitos. How far has it gotten?

Hook, the road South to the entrance is really nice smooth pavement. Then it goes to bad pot holes shortly thereafter. However, I have heard they are repaving further South now, just don't know how far. I've also heard that in a couple of years the pavement will take you all the way through Gonzaga past Coco's Corner all the way to MX-1 (2007?) Maybe someone else can verify this.

Road south from Campo Mazatlan

The paving is complete to KM 54 south, watch the vados, some of them will launch you into low orbit! From there to Puertocitos it is non-existant paving and potholes and caved in culverts, the last dirt part was graded for about 3 miles 2 weeks ago in to about Cowpattys. From Puertocitos the first 8 miles are well maintained to a mine, afer that and over the Cuestas there are some recent rock falls making it one way in places, from Nachos Camp on its just washboard, deal with it according to your rig, there is some loose rocky spots and some bad wash crossings along the Los Assratras before you get to Coco's, after that more washboard.
