husband got to border crossing at tijuana at 9am this (sunday) morning and did not cross into san diego until 11:30am. yuch.BornFisher - 11-27-2005 at 04:02 PM
Thanksgiving morning---- got there @ 7:20 AM---- crossed @ 7:25AM.
Now if those closed lanes were open, it probably would have been no wait!!Sharksbaja - 11-27-2005 at 04:03 PM
WOW! Last Sunday eve I came thru Otay at 11 pm and it only took 10 mins. I may plan future exits simiarly but remember that holiday weekends are a
whole another story.surfer jim - 11-27-2005 at 04:14 PM
update 2 pm.....mexicali wait....120 minutes....
I believe the "real world" times are LONGER.....( for those of us who don't always believe what "they" say)....

I have never found the estimated wait times broadcast to be accurate. Since I only cross at the Eastern crossing, I can't say about downtown, but my
crossing times have always been 10-15 minutes shorter than the current forecast. I have found the shortest wait times to be around 2-3 p.m. and I
make it a point to cross during that time frame. My wait times have never been more than 20-25 minutes, including Sundays. However, I NEVER cross on
a Holiday Sunday.
never cross on a holiday sunday either

but husband had to catch flight from san diego to denver at 2:15pm (today, sunday). the other option was a 9am flight on monday morning which would
have required he leave ensenada at 3am. in this case we decided a long wait was better than getting up at 3 in the morning to make sure he could get
across during rush hour. sometimes there are no good options.BornFisher - 11-27-2005 at 05:02 PM
Remember that between now and Christmas, the wait will be longer than usual--- for the shoppers!!wornout - 11-27-2005 at 06:03 PM

Me too, no wait, I am on the other side from you, oh well. Have to go to the old country and put it off until Monday, hopefully we will get across
better than most times posted here.bajaden - 11-27-2005 at 06:23 PM
I never cross on sundays and I only cross at 5 or 6 in the morning. I have never had to wait. Doesn't matter which way I go out. Common sense should
tell you not to go during rush hour.woody with a view - 11-27-2005 at 06:59 PM

funny. every time i'm heading south at 4am there are thousands of cars waiting in line heading north to work in the states.David K - 11-27-2005 at 09:16 PM
TECATE TONIGHT (Sunday 11-27):
Arrived at 5:00pm at the longest line I have seen here... backed up all the way towards the industrial park on the free Mexicali hwy.
However, moved very well and we were inside at 6:35 pm (95 min.).Paulina - 11-28-2005 at 12:10 AM
Sunday after Thanksgiving.
The longest part of the trip was the wait along the border road. It took 45 min. to go the three blocks till we came to the intersection connecting
to the border loop up the ramp. The motorcycle police pulled up just as we came to the intersection. The ramp was closed but luckly someone snoozed
just enough for our truck to fit snuggly into line, thus avoiding a trip further up the road.
We stuck to the right lane, didn't bother with the carpool lane is it wasn't moving at all. The border agent asked us how long it took us to get to
his point, about an hour and a half was our reply. It would have taken us longer if we hadn't chosen the lane we did. His response was that the TJ
police are closing down most all of the border access roads, forcing a bottle neck and longer wait times to the crossing.
We were listening to KOGO the entire time and wondering where they get their crossing wait time information. They said 'one hour' as we were leaving
the last toll booth and all the way up to the crossing. Just curious.
Usually we don't cross in TJ, only this time our passenger reqested we show him this crossing as he's only seen Otay Mesa from our back seat.
I don't consider an hour and a half that long of a wait considering it being a holiday weekend. Besides, the people watching was pretty good.

Saturday (12/3) in Tecate at 2:30 pm, the wait was 40 minutes. They've got those shiny new kiosks but I have yet to see them use both. And the new
"line" goes uphill for the most part - kinda hard on the clutch for that long. Not much of an improvement if you ask me.4baja - 12-5-2005 at 07:15 AM
