TIJUANA ? Mexican authorities arrested two state police agents after an American man who went to the state police agency to report his truck stolen found the vehicle parked near the offices.

C?sar Due?as Moreno and Alberto Rom?n Rodr?guez Rangel, agents assigned to investigate home and bank robberies, are accused of stealing a 2000 white Ford pickup Friday.

Liza Davis, spokeswoman with the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana, said the truck was stolen in Tijuana and belonged to a U.S. Marine, who was traveling with two other Marines. She said she didn't have their names.

"They were in Tijuana Friday evening, and their car was stolen and they went to one or more municipal police offices and were told to go first thing Saturday morning to file a police report at the state police," she said.

The next day, Mexican authorities opened an investigation when the truck's owner saw his truck parked at the agency's lot.

The two detained agents said the pickup was left unlocked and they found a key inside it, so they took it to the agency. However, Mexican authorities said they didn't follow proper procedures. Mexican authorities also found a tool for forcing open car doors inside the agents' patrol car.

The agents, who worked with the state police force for more than four years, were suspended Monday without pay and taken to state prison, where they will be held without bail, according to Mexican authorities. The pickup was returned to its owner, Davis said.

In a written statement, the state Attorney General's Office, which is overseeing the case, said it hopes the results encourage others to call attention to improper acts by police here.

We hear a lot about the corruption in Mexico but corrupt police and officials are now getting prosecuted which must be a sign of better things to come, as long as discriminatory US attitudes like border control and denying medical care etc. don't pee the Mexicans off. Considering we (the US) stole Alta from Mexico when the Spanish protection left I think we are lucky they don't screw us more.

There was only limited compensation and only after we had taken Alta by Killing Indians who supported the Mexicans and inciting American immigrants to terrorise Spanish families and then we broke the agreement of Guadalupe Hidalgo by taking deeded lands from Hispanic families. Reading history will do you no good if hold Manifest Destiny in your breast.

No one is whining, just pointing out the facts mam Of course it is the strong who win but just who is strong changes, and it's changing fast here in Alta California.

Army unit that 'occupied' La Paz? I just searched and couldn't find it. As I recall, it said that the soldiers loved La Paz, and the locals liked them. The locals had little use for the Mexican gov't, and expected to be part of the US when the war ended.....

When the Mexican army returned, there were some reprisals.
