San Felipe

Juan del Rio - 12-3-2005 at 09:15 AM

Hey Mike, Carlos Fiesta was co-pilot. We flew down in Bill Constable's 205.We had to land in Loreto as Cadeje is closed at the moment since they didn't pay their fees and got caught not registering a plane that had landed. The miltary doesn't like it when the records don't match! Have no idea when it will re-open. They do open it for the clinics however.
Photo below is final approach to San Felipe.

I have not seen Dandy for a few months, although he comes into San Juanico on a regular basis to see Jaime with his traditional Boots cigarettes, Tecate cervez and a "you betcha" for almost every sentence. Man, is that guy great!

Great Juan... You got one to show people the hot springs on the point?

Looks like you may have flown right over them... so a photo wouldn't be possible...

[Edited on 12-3-2005 by David K]

Juan del Rio - 12-3-2005 at 04:23 PM

David, I didn't get any of the of the hotsprings...I was focused on the airstrip at the time.

David K - 12-3-2005 at 04:42 PM

Thanks Juan... you did good! I love seeing the coast of Baja this way!

DavidT - 12-3-2005 at 05:49 PM

Juan,

I heard that your dream house was sold within the last year. Asking $300,000 +, sold for $276,000 USD.

Juan, I think this is the village of Punta Final, south end of 'Gonzaga Bay' (actually 'Ensenada de San Francisquito').

I like this casa shot...

Juan del Rio - 12-18-2005 at 04:22 PM

It was taken right next to this place where DavidT said it sold earlier this year for $276k.

jerry - 12-18-2005 at 05:19 PM

wow what a gorgouse place great pic thanks

I think that David k is right--------

Barry A. - 12-18-2005 at 05:35 PM

I think that both those last shots are at Punta Final, at the south end of San Luis Gonzaga. (but I am not positive)

those last pics are definitely Punta Final...

eetdrt88 - 12-18-2005 at 08:04 PM

i was there in the spring, its a pretty unbelievable place...we fished in a zodiac a couple miles off shore and had fun chasing some bait balls around...came back with a pretty good little mess of fish

Puertecitos Hot Springs

Juan del Rio - 6-10-2006 at 03:14 PM

David K, I remembered the last time I flew down south, you wanted a photo of the Hot Springs area in Puertecitos...
Let me know if you have any other requests. I photographed pretty much non-stop from Mexicali to San Francisquito and back.

any shots of the bahia santa maria area, about 30km south of san felipe???

Tell me if I'm north or south...

Juan del Rio - 6-10-2006 at 05:46 PM

from here. I'm only guessing at this point.

How about this one?

Juan del Rio - 6-10-2006 at 05:49 PM

David K - 6-11-2006 at 10:32 AM

Juan, those are south of Puertecitos.

Bahia Santa Maria is all sand, shallow bay/lagoon that empties at low tide... just south of Shell Island.

In this satellite image, you see the long skinny barrier sand island (my 'Shell Island')... Percebu is at the top and Bahia Santa Maria is the half moon bay at the bottom...

Here is an aerial photo at the north end of Shell Island taken in front of Laguna Percebu. Bahia Santa Maria is at the far end (4-5 miles away)...

viabaja - 6-13-2006 at 07:30 AM

Juan,

Great aerials!! Got any of Laguna Percebu? The only one that I know of is the one David K has of looking south along Shell Island (Beach).

Again, thanks for posting for all of us to enjoy!

very cool. what a place! our 1st stop in 1980 via private time machine, hooked for life!

Ken Bondy - 6-14-2006 at 08:16 AM

Mike those pictures at BBP are fantastic. Jeez do they bring back a lot of memories. My first trip there was in a 210 in 1978 and, like you, I was hooked forever. Thanks for the heads up.

capt. mike - 6-14-2006 at 01:47 PM

thot you'd like those Ken. no place quite like that. too bad those without plane access will never experience it unless they like to drive a lot over terrible roads!:wow:

Hey guys...

Juan del Rio - 6-14-2006 at 02:00 PM

where were the photos located on BBP? I went there and looked under the San Francisiquito link on the lower portion. They must be some where else where I'm not lookin' Thanks.

David K - 6-14-2006 at 06:03 PM

Mike, it's 'terrible roads' that make many of us really appreciate the beauty that Baja has to offer and we respect her for it! We also get to see all the land UP CLOSE from the border to the destination.

Flying advantage is you get to the destination and enjoy for far more time there. Albeit you are limited to the few remaining places that have an open runway. Down with ditching Baja runways!:light:

capt. mike - 6-14-2006 at 06:11 PM

right on. i am down with getting down with ditching pistas in "the" baja...(sorry Jimmy!):smug:

i know ya'll like to drive and ground pound your exploring. I just don't have the time. gotta git there man, do a few days and blow on out!

David K - 6-14-2006 at 06:21 PM
