We are headed to Camp Gecko with our puppy (younger than 3 months old) and has not yet had her 3rd vaccination. I would like to avoid any traces of
parvo and other nasties in dog feces lying about. However, I do not wish to make a straight shot to Bahia de Los Angeles. I am thinking that maybe
Gypsy's doesn't have any stray dogs around, but I like El Pebellon better. Any suggestions for an overnighter? I will have to look into the
possibility if coyote droppings would pose a problem.
I've stayed at both places...

and dont recall a whole lot of dogs at either...but honestly almost any place i've camped for a few nights in Baja a dog or two inevitably shows

I would keep the puppy up off the ground as much as possible no matter where you are. The beaches are probably your best bet for walks.
Parvo is nasty. Lost one to that a few years back. Only a 20% survival rate after exposure. I have one of the 20 percenter...thank goodness. Her
sister died of parvo and they were tied together when we found them.

They were sick when we found them, so no.
Is there a vaccination for Parvo?

I would worry more about bringing the puppy back into the US. All dogs entering must have up to date rabies and parvo shots and you have to have the

You are supposed to start the vaccinations at about 8 weeks and then get them every month for about 3 more months. My pup got 2 shots so far. Also, I
think I have a plan. I am getting some rolls of plastic garden fencing to make a little yard, and then I'll rake the area then I'm use my bug sprayer
to spray diluted bleach on the ground to kill the germs. I know it will be a bit of a pain, but it would be nice to have a confined area for the pup.LarryK - 12-24-2005 at 04:44 PM
Just a heads up! A couple of weeks a go when I came across at Tijuana, I was sent to secondary to have my dog?s papers checked. When I mentioned
this to a friend of mine who lives in Tijuana he said that there are cracking down on dogs, mostly puppies. It seems that people are importing
puppies to sell in the states that have not had shots etc:
Have your papers with you. The Vet I go to puts the dogs picture on the paperwork. There is no doubt about who the dog is.
DO NOT bring your puppy w/o Parvo shots

Parvo is extremely pervasive, persistent and contagious. The virus lives on in the ground for months or years. Your puppy can contract it from just
running around an empty campground.

I've run across a few dogs running loose at Gypsy's, and the same dogs at Cielito Lindo. They would escort me on my beachcombing walks and one would
even fetch sticks.
They seem to belong to locals and are friendly and look well cared for but that doesn't mean that they aren't carrying something.

Thank you everybody for your concern and your input. I have decided to let the puppy stay at my father's house. My father owns a brother from the same
