i was recently told about a pier just south of universal studios on the scenic hwy he said lots of good restrants there??i usally fly or drive way
south befor stopping but would like to check this out anyone know the place?? name?? k marker on hiways 1?? directions?? as we will be driving a mh

With Google Earth I looked at the coastline between Fox Studios and Ensenada pretty carefully and didn't see any piers. Then again you never know
when the satellite photos were taken, but the Fox facility looked pretty current.

Popotla fish camp

Directly South of Fox studios is a fish camp with several restaurants. It's a mini Puerto Nuevo. No pier. The fishermen launch from a protected cove.
If you want to experience this you had better hurry. I understand it is being shut down. Either Fox or the original property owner wants it. In either
case, everyone there are squatters and will be evicted.
<There IS however, what remains of, or, what was once to be, a pier at Popotla. A community just South of the military checkpoint on the free road.
Just North of Calafia.

Actually right near Universal Studios in So Cal is the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach

That's sad if Popotla is going away! My hubby and me spent some time down there while waiting for a table to be made, and we really enjoyed it. It was
Easter time when we visited and the locals were all having lots of fun... us too!

Your freind is no doubt talking about Popotla. It is almost next door to the Fox Studio. Because it's on a spit of land with a small bay to it's
south, it could appear as a pier.

there used to be a pier to the south of the campo popotla. it is underwater now! have heard the fishermen sell there goodies on the north end of
popotla beach. gonna check it out this weekend.
BTW, popotl=beach in nahuatl (aztec lingo)

Is there a posted exit for Popotla? I'm headed down next week for a fish taco run and would love to stop at this little encampment.

Get off the toll road just past Rosarito beach{just before the AM/PM}. Head south. Just past the movie Studio, turn right. You will know your going
the right way because you will go directly under2 white arches. The wall on your right was given a worldwide award for low tech protesting. Follow the

I think what he is asking about is the pier that 'used' to extend southwest in the small cove just south of Popotla--actually almost directly behind
the old restaurant. The only thing that is left are the stone pilings. It is the only pier that I ever saw that started out level and then rose as
it extended over the ocean. The decking has been gone for a couple of decades or more.
It was used by intoxicated lovers more than fishermen. Dance at the restaurant and then stroll out on the pier and see what happened. Those were fun
days and the dance floor, while small, was the best around and the musical groups almost always were on key.

Had a great trip to Ensenada over the MLK holiday and stopped in Popotla on the way down. Frank, thanks for the directions there were dead on. We
stayed only 20 minutes in Popotla since we were running late for our check in, but I can't wait to get back. Once you get to the end of the dirt road
under the arches, the food vendors compete for your business. I parked next to the wall and walked down to the shore and could see where the pier
used to be. The food smelled great and the prices were lower then Puerto Nuevo. If it is true the place will be razed soon, then it is a shame.

Glad you had a good time. I hope Popotla doesnt go the way of the Dinosaur too. Did you get to watch the Pangeros come back in the surf? Its better
being in the boat. Look up Tacho {my best pangero buddy} if you want to
go fish, he might of retired but he still goes down every morning, just like a old salty dawg. Frank
