BOLA xmas report

4baja - 1-11-2006 at 07:57 AM

we pulled in on sunday (xmas) to blue skys ,no wind and our friends david and yvon greeting us. after some beers passed around he filled us in on the fishing and the weather for the passed few days and we set about getting everything set up and gear ready for the following day. monday we headed for 7 mile reef along with dennis and emma on daves boat on flat seas and zero wind. dave put us on the spot and dennise hooks up to a 12 pound yellow along with many bottom fish. because of the current :bounce:we decide to go to los machos on the big island, our first drop we hook up and dennis again brings one in and i allso score. we put a few more in the box and head for esta ton for some swimming and exploreing. the next day was a carbon copy of the day before with fish in the box and a glassy day with many smiles in daves boat. that night our good friend deasert bull and jeff showed up and we proceded to find the bottom of many bottles. the next day we all went fishing with phills boat (the lizard) along side and we went straight to the big island, there was a little wind so we bypassed 7 mile reef and went to were the fish have been. again we started to hook up and put around 5 fish in the box and because of the wind decided to head to don juan cove for some bottle r&r. jeff was our bartender along the way and kept up with our thirsty behavier as dave kept the boat pointed towards the point. we pulled in to glassy conditions and through the anchor out , jeff proceded to fill his pockets with clams as we filled our throats with beer and snacks and beer ect. the bull was out swimming and snuck around the boat and gave me a beer bath while i had my back to him(thanks bull) and i had to get back with my own prank. tim and jeff had to leave and get back to san felipe se we said our good bys and off the went in his bad a*&%$ race truck. we went on a quad ride the next day to the copper mine and hicked up to one of the diggings, there still seems to be alot of copper in the mine with alot of green showing in the rock. me, phill , dave , and beth went up one of the arroyos looking for another mine but never found it, they hoofed it over a saddle looking and just found a indian trail leading to the ocean. the next day we again went fishing to the big island and loaded up with about 18 fish with phills 16.2 pounder being the biggest. it seems that with heavey current the fish are more active then when its calm as daves boat was spinning in the heavy current with many tangled lines. there were areas were the water was spinning so fast that it created funnels pulling air down as far as we could see, wouldnt want to fall in at that place. our buddys ezra and joe pulled to my place from the pacific side (surfing diablo)with a bottle of tequila and a hand full of limes in hand and we proceded to empty the bottle, that night was a little bit of a blur but that didnt stop me from getting up at 5am for the boys fishing trip. we launched the boat and dave pointed it towards smith islands when we noticed white caps heading our way so we decided to re turn to the launch ramp. the rest of the trip was rideing quads and hanging out with our buddys till friday when we headed back. great trip had by all. water temp was 64, air was around 78. lots of dolphins in the bay but no whales. great fishing out by the big island and bring live bait. water green on the inside with blue outside with a little bit of red tide inside the bay. :bounce::coolup:
