Baja Books and Maps is pleased to announce a book signing in San Jose del Cabo at Ida Victoria Gallery Feb 18 from 11am to 5pm. CM Mayo and Bruce
Berger will be there, possibly Ann Hazard and Michael Mercer. Any of you Baja authors interested in participating, please contact
bajabooksite@yahoo.com.
CM Mayo will be giving a slide presentation. We are hoping to find a piano for Bruce.
We are working on a special rate with one of the hotels. Will announce that when definite.
The gallery will be showing the works of Andres Garcia Pe?a whose newest collection features 50's style travel posters of Los Cabos. Go to http://www.idavictoriaarts.com then artists, then his name to see a few of his paintings. We think that they will be a wonderful backdrop for
our Baja authors.David K - 1-12-2006 at 08:05 AM

That gallery looks beautiful BajaJudy. I haven't been to SJC for a long time- fancy shmansy stuff now. Good luck with your event.
More authors will be there
bajajudy - 1-12-2006 at 04:28 PM
Dick Russell, "Eye of the Whale" has agreed to come and Ann Hazard has definitely committed as well. This is going to be a wonderful event and I
hope that any of you in the area will come and meet these people who have written such beautiful words about Baja.
Osprey, can you make it down?turtleandtoad - 1-12-2006 at 04:51 PM
BajaJudy,
I just connected you to the gallery. I was there last year but didn't make the connection until I saw the website.
I don't know if it was you I talked to, (I was talking about that being a full-time RV'er I couldn't collect art like I used to), but I really enjoyed
the visit and will definitely be back; if only to look.
Thanks for the memories.
Book Banned in Todos Santos Author

T&T
I wish that were my gallery but Ida has generously offered her gallery for this book signing event. She also tells me that when the Garcia Pe?a
exhibit opens there will be more photos of his works on the website.
Michael Mercer is a definite yes now. He wrote the book "Banditos" which was banned by the book store in Todos Santos and the book "Mexicoland".
WOW
bajajudy - 1-15-2006 at 11:56 AM
Jinx Schwartz has signed on for this event, too. Ed Vernon hopes to be here but Barbara is having surgery so it will depend on her recovery.
This is going to be a wonderful Baja happening. Sure hope that my nomad friends will be well represented.
We think that we have found a piano for Bruce Berger.
I will keep updating this post as others are included.

What time will CM Mayo's slide show take place?
Also, does anyone know the way to San Jose?bajajudy - 1-15-2006 at 02:31 PM
Cardon
Will post that information as soon as I know it. We have only had this on the books for 4 days so we are still in the planning stages, although we
are thrilled with the response that we have gotten so far from the authors.
Jim tells me that no nomad authors have reported in. Que pasa con eso?
We need to know what authors are coming so we can get their names on all the publicity.
I know that BCS is like a foreign country to some of you but "come on down"! It is presidents day weekend.
Still working on a cheap rate at one of the downtown hotels. If I cant find a DEAL will post all the info for all the hotels with telephone numbers,
email addresses and rates,etc.
Hasta
Great idea Judy,
Keri - 1-16-2006 at 08:50 AM
The gallery looks beautiful. What a wonderful back drop for your Booksigning. Looks like you also have some new authors attending. That's fantastic.
Our 4th Annual Book signing and Wine tasting at Pyramid Resort will be May 6, 2006 For those of you who aren't able to make it to
Baja Sur you'll still be able to come meet your favorite authors at Pyramid Resort. Judy and Jim I know it's going to be a smashing success. Hope
you have as much fun putting it together as Bernie and I do. k

Won't be able to make it this year BUT my new book should be out for your event next year and hope to make that one!
What you are doing is a lot of work but just getting the real Baja people together is so well worth it. Judy and Keri like book ends and that ain't
bad!

Hi Bruce,
Kacey Smith posts updates on VOLUME 2 in her web site: http://www.bajagpsguide.com and last I saw, it ain't ready yet! But, I am ready for it!!! Here is what I read on Kacey's site this morning:
Baja GPS Guidebook Volume 2 2006-01-01
Pre-orders will start in March 2006. This guide includes new routes in the north that will blow your Fox socks off and picks up where Volume 1 left
off at San Ignacio and takes you all the way to Cabo San Lucas in a loop and back up. I've never had so much fun making some of these new routes....
especially in and around the central part of Baja!! You'll be so happy after each ride, you'll cry! hehhe hah ha ha.

How did it go Judy?
BBAM Book Signing
bajajudy - 2-22-2006 at 07:52 AM
Thanks for asking DK!
It went terrific. Cardon and GGG were there and identified themselves to me. Hopefully Cardon will post some photos later.
We had over 200 people not including the 20 something authors and wives, friends etc.
Bruce Berger read from his book, "Almost an Island"
CM Mayo gave a slide presentation which was very well received, standing room only.
Dick Russell talked at length about the effects of global warming on the gray whales. He is very concerned about this.
Then Sy Montgomery gave a brief presentation. Although she has not written about Baja, she has written about many interesting subjects regarding
conservation.
Then Ann Hazard and her husband, Terry, chatted about things Baja.
Last was Michael Mercer, whose book "Bandidos" was banned in Todos Santos by the local book store. He gave a wonderful accounting of this incident
and read his new chapter "Writers and Realtors" I will ask his permission to post the entire presentation here if anyone is interested. I will tell
you that I laughed out load many times.
Meet the Authors hour from 4-5 with wine and hors d'ouevres from various contributing restaurants.
At 7 we all regrouped at a friends house in San Jose for c-cktails and dinnner.
Bruce Berger entertained with some fabulous piano playing.
Antiguas Los Cabos ended the evening with a tequila tasting of their mango, almond and granada flavored tequilas. Paired with miniture sweets from
"Sweet Dreams"
As you can see we had a full day.
Thanks to all who came and Ida Victoria has already said that she is looking forward to next year. A few of the authors have already signed on.
[Edited on 2-22-2006 by bajajudy]David K - 2-22-2006 at 08:20 AM
That sounds wonderful! Nice personal interaction!
Did Greg Niemann make it?
Who is GGG?
Next year will be even bigger!bajajudy - 2-22-2006 at 08:43 AM
Yes Greg and his wife were there. He is one of the authors who said he would come back next year. We will probably do it again Presidents Day
weekend. BUT that seems like a long way off and I am still not over the last one.
I am happy to report that the book outlets here are reporting brisk sales of the books from these authors. BTW...they all showed up...check out
previous posts in this thread to see who all was there. It was quite an impressive list, IMHObajajudy - 2-22-2006 at 08:47 AM
GGG is a Nomad. He actually came to the Ann Hazard book signing in Todos Santos as well. It was there that he introduced himself and his wife to me.
I love meeting Nomads. We do have a lot in common.......BAJA. We have had dinner in La Paz with some Nomads too. It really is nice to put a face
with a name.
Well I just did a search and there is no GGG. Maybe he will identify himself to me U2U. Anyway he and his wife were very nice and it was good to
see them twice!

TripleG - 2-22-2006 at 09:16 PM
Judy
You were real close. The name is "tripleg". I'm sure my wife and I will enjoy the books. Will save them to read at home, which unfortunately will
be to soon. Leaving Sunday for the cool NW.
