Camping options?

Janice - 10-31-2003 at 05:45 PM

Hola! We are heading down SUNDAY for our month long adventure! We were planning on camping at one of our favorite county campgrounds in San Diego, but with the fires, we are considering our options.

We are six hours from SD, and still have to get our insurance and tourist cards...so we are looking for something not too far down, but not close to TJ. We have a Toy van that we can sleep in, but we are not self-contained.

Any suggestions on camping options?

We have a nice bluff here in Rosarito with a restaurant right next door. You may be interested in Baja Search and Rescue as well which is one of the things we do here. More info at http://groups.msn.com/TheBajasBestGuidesPhotoAlbum

Easy solution

Get your insurance via the internet at www.bajabound.com

You will not need to stop at the border to get it.

Stay at El Palomar, south of Maneadero, at Santo Tomas.

We travel from Merced, leave about 5:00 AM and get to El Palomar just after dark.

Getting a tourist card at the border is a snap.

our dos centavos,

Call Lewis and Lewis in Beverly Hills and get your insurance faxed to you before you leave. Stop at the border in San Ysidro and get your tourist permits, pay at the bank window next door and head south. Two and a half hours after you leave TJ you will be in Punta Banda. (Turn off in Manedero, the road to La Bufadora ) Stay over night at La Jolla Beach camp or Villarinos. Both are right on the beach, safe, have electrical hookups and hot showers, restaurants and mini markets near by. Be on your way further south the next morning.

This might be too late to get to you

P, they mention they are in a Van not a Camper

There is a KOA in Chula Vista 10mins. from the border Food 4 Less close, Rite Aid any number of Eaterys.....

If I were you (and I often am) I would stay there, stock up on things you wish to take along, get a good nights sleep to head out early in the morning, don't know where you want to stop along the way, but, you can be in Bahia de Los Angeles in 8hrs. from the border. Have fun, and drive safe.

Gracias
