Mexicans March Against Crime in Tijuana

January 29, 2006 - About 1,500 people dressed in white marched through this border city Sunday to pressure the government to crack down on violent crimes such as kidnappings and murders.

Releasing white balloons in the air, the demonstrators, many of whom were businessmen, said that Tijuana has become more dangerous in the last two years despite the 2004 election of Mayor Jorge Hank Rhon who campaigned with promises of cleaning up the crime-ridden streets.

"I can't understand why there are so many kidnappings," said Saul Salgado, whose brother-in- law was kidnapped last June and is still missing. "I came here to pressure the government to do its job."

Tijuana resident Silma Juncua, 22, said that her 29-year-old boyfriend Jose Fernandez was killed by robbers in December. She had planned to marry him this year.

"I came here to express my pain and my anger and, in a way, to remember him," Juncua said.

In a news conference following the march, Tijuana General Secretary Fernando Castro said the city government will investigate why there are so many kidnappings and take a close look at the police department.

"If we find out the police aren't doing their job, we will clean them out at all levels," said Castro, the mayor's chief aide.

The demonstration in Tijuana, across the U.S. border from San Diego, resembled a much larger march in Mexico City in 2004, when hundreds of thousands of people, many dressed in white, marched against crime.

I'm sure that will fix the problem.

Can't hurt......

Politicians are pretty much the same everywhere.
Tell you what you want to hear and then do what they want to do....which is mostly nothing but verbal diahreah. Just look at our own Government.

Meanwhile, Jorge Hank was recovering at home from a night of heavy drinking, plenty of food, and a private show from the Gypsy Kings, oh yeah, the city is going to hell but our mayor has to celebrate his birthday in James Bond like style.

And if we do nothing, we only have ourselves to blame.....

Hundreds Of Protesters Flood Tijuana Streets

January 30, 2006

SAN DIEGO -- Hundreds of Tijuana residents took to the streets on Sunday, protesting what they described as a crime wave.

Dressed in white, the protesters urged city officials to take action against criminals and a string of kidnappings. The activists said they want better investigations that won't leave cases unsolved.

Until that goal is realized, many people told NBC 7/39, they feel unsafe to roam the streets.

The 15-year-daughter of one couple at the protest died in December after she was kidnapped and later thrown into oncoming traffic.

"I don't want another mother to have to go through what I'm going through right now," said the girl's mother, Sara Elena Ruiz, through a translator. "If this case is resolved, we can have more confidence in our own authorities. Like my husband says, we don't want vengeance -- only justice. "

The protest was organized by Tijuana businessmen after one of their colleagues was murdered in January during an attempted kidnapping. That case, too, has not been solved.

Obviously crime in Baja is similar to crime in Aruba...very sad for the victims and families. There are scum in every society.

I think I missed something "Kinda like being a diplomatic with terrorists?"

Is that what you took from my comment?

If so, I should be more clear..... What I meant to express was....

If no one stands up and speaks out, (as we learned in the years prior to WWII) then we have no one to blame but ourselves, If we sit on our butts and do nothing, say nothing...then what?

There is my "diplomatic" comment.

In "real" life I say KICK THEIR ARSES! but, of course I can't say that here. :saint:

Politicians are elected by the PEOPLE. Politicians can be voted out by the People. Politicians say what the people want to hear then do what they want to do. Happens all the time...Vote the scum out and elect spome other scum. Obviously being corrupt is part of politics. History repeats itself all the time.
Just look what the GOVERNATOR has done for California.
