Inquiring about yet another La Fonda.....

Hook - 2-2-2006 at 11:47 AM

While eating one morning at Paola's in La Mision, we were informed by a gringo that there were many lotes for sale along the river road that runs on the north side.

While driving around back there after breakfast, I noticed a restaurant tucked into some dense vegetation that also used a version of the words "La Fonda" in it name. Cant remember what the full name was. It appeared to have a fair amount of outside seating within all the vegetation. It was closed in late morning.

Is this still operating? Has anyone ever eaten there? What's the story with it :?:

Story goes:

Formerly known as Eve's Garden. Eve owned the original La Fonda and sold it to Mr. D. Eve met an untimely death some years back. Rumor had it that powerful people wanted her to sell the land she owned in La Mision valley. She refused. Case still unsolved. I think a certain normal nomad may have better info.

The gentleman who now owns the property (his name escapes me) was a regular at La Fonda over the years and was Eve's 'helper' and was referred to as the 'Mayor of La Mision'. He would often tell us about the place and that he had rooms to rent. After Mr. D sold La Fonda the aforementioned hombre was not around as much. We had heard that he had opened a restaurant and drove back there last year during the festival in La Mision. He was there and told us at the time that he served breakfast and lunch (outside) and would soon be opening for dinner after renovation of the inside dining room. We asked when? He said June! Did not say what year. It is a beautiful locale with big trees and a nicely planted garden.

WOW, interesting story

......maybe Eve's ghost is still haunting the old location of La Fonda?

I will have a fair amount of free time this weekend. Leaving for La Salina in early afternoon. Maybe I'll poke around back there and see if it's open for dinner.

Gonna check out Superbowl spots well in advance of the big game. Go Seahawks......I love rooting for an underdog when I have no dog in the fight.

Welcome to the Seahawk rooting section, Hook. Can two people do the wave?
