Baja firefighters volunteer in Alpine

Twenty volunteer firefighters from Baja California are in Alpine working with their U.S. counterparts to contain the wildfires.

Jos? Luis Rosas, executive director of Baja California's Civil Protection Office, said the volunteers are members of a Mexicali-based group known as Bravo-10. They have been in Alpine since Wednesday.

Baja California has also offered to help in California shelters for fire victims, Gov. Eugenio Elorduy Walther said yesterday. "They told us that they were grateful, but it wasn't necessary for now," Elorduy said.

Funny how this will almost never be mentioned be the U.S. media, there was also at least 15 Tijuana reserve firefighers helping as well.

They Gubment turned down so many firefighting resources Jesse, what do you expect from a media thet constantly reminds us of how dangerous Mexico and Baja is? Now the U.S. Politics is causing peoples homes to be burned. Among other things as I did read your other post regarding such.
But, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that when there is a fire, combined with winds, you use every resource available immediately to get that fire out.
Me, being trailer trash keeps me highly aware of this.

Well, it was mentioned strongly in the US media. The ol' Cuerpos de Tijauna y the hotshots from Mexicali were big news up here. I'm tired of your US hating. I was there. When there are 200 foot flamelengths you can't do chit to stop a fire.

I DO understand your frustration.....

When I read the report of the Mexican firefighters up north, I thought, 'neighbors helping neighbors' great that Mexico is finally getting some credit for being the good neighbors that they are. If the link to the story hadn't been posted here I would never have seen it. And I doubt that most people not in California would have. I maybe wrong, but, I don't think that anything was meant by Jesse and Ski comments, on that same topic, I've been reading the SD area papers, and I haven't seen any reference to our (Wa. State) fire fighters down there helping out either, including one that was burned over 25% of his body in the 30 mile fire up here, (he was the only survivior in his group of (I think 9) that survived. We ( the collective "we") only seems to get news that directly pertains to our neighborhood.

You HEROS (yes, I use 'that word', they ARE!) are under alot of stress, and I thank you for doing what you do.

True. I did not read about the Washington ff's. I did read about the Nor-Cal, Az and NV ff's here. Believe it or not there was coverage of those dead ff's up there. There has even been coverage of those ff's that were hauling ass home and passed a truck on an outside curve that got in a wreck and died. Sad stuff. I guess when there are 5000 of us here that it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. Also, a lot of us in this area get news from LA and OC papers because there is only the UT rag here. It just peees me off to see this constant US bashing. Talk about ego. Whatever, 'nuff said.

Franco, I don't mean to bash the U.S.. I am from there. If you think that the government is doing a good job, I really have no reason to argue as I don't live there anymore.
I don't think I am alone in thinking that there isn't at the least, "room for improvement" for a number of reasons.
My heart goes out to all the firefighters on the planet as I think it is one of the most honest, caring and rewarding jobs out of any.
If you as a firefighter can honestly tell me that nothing more could have been done with the San Diego Fires for whatever reason, it would end my doubts about what the true story is.
And I try to go straight to the source, whenever possible. That would be you.
I also understand if you don't have the time or desire to reply to this babble by the unknowing.

Lots of room for improvement. Getting resources isn't really the problem it's the proper deployment of them. I gotta go to work so I won't be able to respond for a day or two. Let's just say that the SD board of supervisors has done an inadequete job. My response inititially was in regards to the bomberos not being mentioned in the press here when, in fact, that was not the case. Saludos.

San Diego TV news did mention the firefighters who helped from outside California, including those from Mexico, last night... We 'gringos' DO appreciate the help...

Wich one? i was glued to the TV sunday and monday, watching Fox, ABC, CBS, KUSI, WB, and even UPN and i didn't hear anything.

Your way off mark, i am not bashing the U.S. i am merely stating a FACT, and that is that U.S. media pays almost no attention to the good things coming from Mexico, only the bad. When ever there is a story involving Baja, its always about killings, corruption, an "innocent" american jailed for having illegal drugs or a weapon on them, or similar things, RARELY does the U.S. media aknowledges any good coming from Mexico, i am sorry if you feel bad about this, but is FACT.

I am a man that likes to keep himself informed, i watch the news during this whole week, and i was wondering why Baja firefighters where not helping their San Diego counterparts, i tought to myself, wouldn't it be a nice gesture if we sent a couple of guys over there and a few engines at least.

Well, it turns out we had almost 35 people there complete with their equipment, that might not be a lot to you, but 35 firefighters for Baja and its meager resources is a hell of a thing, anyways. It wasn't until saturday i think that i saw the little mention of it on the Union Tribune, later that day i saw KUSI Dan Plante mention it like it was a joke to someone he was interviewing, and i tough to myself, isn't it funny how an american gets caught with hundreds of pills illegaly in Mexico and it gets special reports and tons of coverage to free this "innocent" person, and how a good effort like the ones the Baja firefighters did got almost nothing.

I bet you anythign that if those 35 firefighters where from Canada, you would have heard Coppel and Jennings mention it over and over again that "firefighters as far as Canada" where helping fight the California fires.

THATS IS FACT.

By the way, this has nothing to do with the fires, and all to do with U.S. media.

Hey Jesse, I don't feel bad about anything. It was not mentioned in a joking fashion. Maybe you're a little too sensative. Like me, think what you want. When you put something up for public consumption try to be more objective than subjective.
