If you are scheduled to cross the border in San Ysidro in the near future (next couple weeks or so) and are given a customs inspection, could you do
the following?
Ask officials of Aduana if they possess Temporary Importation Permits that would apply for a boat and trailer. You should be able to ask for this even
if you are not towing a boat and trailer.
It appears that a new law went into effect that requires ANY boat over 14.5 feet to secure one of these permits @ 50.00 each (Thanks for the heads-up
on the fishing board, Bruce Leech). It certainly applies to boats headed to BCS; it is unclear about BCN.
Regardless of where in Baja it is required, I am trying to determine if the forms are AVAILABLE at San Ysidro. So, if you get a chance (especially if
you are towing a boat) please ask if the forms are available there.
